Technical Accounting Specialist – Reinsurance

The opportunity

As a Technical Accounting Specialist within Reinsurance (RI), you will support the implementation of improved processes and systems that meet requirements of efficiency, simplicity and policy compliance while achieving team recording and reporting requirements. This could mean tasks such as:

• Investigating legacy transactions and balances, with a focus on risk reduction and simplification
• Owning specific data processing areas where applicable
• Standardising the RI methodologies for accounting for specific RI processes
• Exploring the application of data and analytic tools such as PowerBI and Alteryx to the RI process
• Performance of specific higher risk elements of RI operational accounting
• Individual projects to automate, streamline and simplify key areas of the team process
• Implementing and maintaining proper risk and control documentation over the process, updating as improvements are implemented
• Supporting other members of the RI admin team (on- and offshore) in performance of their roles

Your story so far

To be successful in this position, you must have:

• Tertiary qualifications in a finance related field, plus preferably qualified as CA or CPA

• Solid accounting experience within the financial services industry, preferably insurance
• Deep knowledge of Australian accounting standards
• Problem solving mindset – someone who loves to interrogate systems and piece together a process
