To facilitate our exciting growth, PwC is evolving to future-proof our Finance function and enhance our capabilities. We have created the Planning & Reporting Centre of Excellence to provide both finance and the business with clear frameworks for reporting, synergising the way information flows through the business to empower firmwide alignment and growth. This new part of our business has evolved from our Strategic Planning and Analysis team, leveraging cutting edge MI technology to facilitate the enhancement of data, budgeting, forecasting and insights. The Centre of Excellence is the custodian for the firm’s budgeting and planning tools, and is responsible for driving planning activities, system improvement, accounting changes and the Finance technology agenda.

The Planning & Reporting Centre of Excellence sits within the new Firmwide Business Partnering team, as a crucial component of the firm’s strategic and business decision support. The team works across the firm, with formal points of contact in every Line of Service. Designed with collaboration as the foremost consideration, the team is entrusted with driving the firm’s approach to information forward, working with leadership and playing a vital part in the firm’s growth agenda.


The role

The Head of P&R CoE will be responsible for overseeing the Planning & Reporting Centre of Excellence operations, developing the strategic objectives and direction of the team, ensuring the team delivers commercial and strategic business insight to a wide variety of stakeholders and operates effectively. This will include providing analytics on business performance, assistance on strategic plans and working closely with other PwC functions such as Tech central.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading the Centre of Excellence and reporting on all developments to the Finance Director of Firmwide Business Partnering

  • Developing and managing the execution of the P&R CoE strategy with an agile mindset for future developments

  • Provide considered recommendations on the performance and impact of the firm’s KPIs both financial and non-financial

  • High quality governance ensuring that reporting adheres to Finance and Firmwide policies, leading on issue resolution

  • Act as a communicator of best practice financial management and leading on change management actions to ensure it is fully shared and leveraged.

  • Ensure delivery of high quality, timely, focused and relevant historic and forward looking management information

  • Advise and prepare information for the creation of high quality presentation papers on finance based matters for UK leadership

  • Managing the relationships with third party providers, including negotiation on pricing and support requirements

  • Setting and agreeing service level agreements with stakeholders, monitoring progress against them and driving continuous performance improvement

  • Single point of Contact for the Firmwide Strategy & Planning and Reporting specialists

  • Line management of Planning and Reporting Leads

  • Being at the forefront of technological enhancements across the Finance function working closely with colleagues in Business Solutions. This will include Board and other technologies such as Alteryx, Tableau and Power BI. Mentor and coach others within the Finance CoE in order to deepen their strategic, commercial and technical awareness.

Essential skills & experience

  • Acts as a role model – leads effectively and inspirationally

  • Has strong commercial and business awareness, demonstrates strategic vision and is able to identify and advise on business risk

  • Proven record of leadership

  • Highly analytical and able to formulate and follow through on long term plans

  • Proven record in building and developing, sustainable relationships internally and externally

  • Experience at managing teams to tight deadlines

  • Experience of delivering enterprise performance and business insight tools

  • Evidence of leading a technology team within the professional services industry
