Job Summary

Provides leadership on assigned projects for Project Engineering and Design within the Electric Transmission Engineering organization by utilizing a broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices acquired through progressive experience.

Acts as a primary interface with multiple Consulting-Engineering firms for Inside Plant projects that are outsourced and assures that PSE&G standards are maintained by these firms.

Coordinate and oversee complex projects and provide liaison functions with Licensing and Permitting Group, System Planners, System Protection Engineers, Asset Experts, Vendors, Project Managers, construction and operating personnel, consultants and contractors.

Review complex Civil Design drawings for conformance to PSE&G standards and applicable federal, state and local ordinances.

Provide technical support during permitting and construction of projects; resolve complex technical problems and provide solutions.

On call when required 7 days, 24 hours, for response to system emergencies. Evaluate and review drawings and documents used for construction and bid purposes.

Must maintain and apply working knowledge of PSEG Standards for Business Controls and meet management’s expectations for effective internal business controls.

For successful candidate, a Director Level approval and waiver will be required for you to bid on other PSEG opportunities within the first 3 years of assignment.

From year 4 through the end of your assignment, Director level approval and waiver will not be required.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but not limited to :

• Provide Civil engineering support on projects from conceptual through completion.
• Reviews and checks Civil design documents including drawings, calculations, specifications, submittals etc. on outsourced and in-house engineering projects for conformance to PSE&G standards and applicable design criteria.
• Provide construction support.
• Must demonstrate leadership in their role and have the ability to stand-in for the Group’s supervisor when required.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with internal and external groups.
• Cleary demonstrated individual and team leadership on critical projects and initiatives.
• Make critical design decisions and provide solutions for replacement of failed equipment on emergency basis.
• Develop estimates and schedules for civil design work for new and emergency projects.
• Conduct field investigations at substations to verify job-site existing conditions.
• Act as a primary interface with multiple Consulting-Engineering firms for project work that is outsourced, and assure that Codes, Industry practices and PSE&G standards are maintained by these firms.
• Candidate must have the initiative and ability to work independently on most issues with limited supervision as well as demonstrated ability to manage multiple issues and projects.
• Proven ability to effectively interact with internal and external groups and clearly display individual and team leadership on critical projects and initiatives.
• As an employee of PSE&G, you should be aware that during Storm / Outage restoration efforts, you may be required to perform functions different from normal operations and your regular work schedule.

You may also be required to work in an alternate location.

Job Specific Qualifications

Required :

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• A minimum of 4 years of relevant engineering experience
• Experience with review of civil design documents including drawings / calculations / Specifications / Submittals etc.
• Familiar with Civil Engineering codes – NJIBC, ACI & AISC
• Strong individual initiative and ability to work independently on most technical issues
• Must foster an inclusive work environment and respects all aspects of diversity
• Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office applications
• Clear and concise writing and verbal communications skills
• Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills; strong planning and organizing skills; adaptable and results oriented
• As the job requires driving to Company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driving history

Desired :

• Engineer in Training Certificate (EIT)
• Advance Technical Training
• Advance Technical or Engineering Degree / Master’s / MBA
• Experience with NJ Regulatory and Licensing Requirements, including environmental, zoning, planning and construction codes.
• Working knowledge of StaadPro, RISA 3D, HEC-RAS, L-Pile, SAG-10 or similar Civil analysis and design software
