NHS Digital – Test Engineer

The role is that of a skilled Test Automation Specialist to work with NHS Digital (Live Screening – Bowel Cancer Screening team) resources. You will work with the team on the delivery of the Lynch Surveillance Pathway, and cloud migration of BCSS. You will also support the wider development team on deliverables for Bowel Cancer Screening. This system supports and manages the national screening programme for those age 58-75. From April 2022 the programme will continue to reduce the eligible age to 50 and this role will support the delivery of software changes in this current FY and beyond. In addition, significant changes to policies for Surveillance of high-risk patients are underway as a PHE priority. These would also be developed within this role. This role will support the delivery of the new Lynch Surveillance Pathway system – a key, prioritised initiative for 2022-23.

The Test Specialist will be expected to work alongside the existing development team to support, maintain and develop the system. This will also be fundamental to the delivery of the Lynch project, and the BCSS cloud migration.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Support the assurance and testing work of the cross functional team.
• Deliver against sprint goal
• Participate in agile sprint ceremonies
• Use automated and exploratory test case design techniques and tools in an agile development environment
• Use tools used for test automation, including bespoke, open source and commercial tools for functional and integration, non-functional and/or data process testing, including those that require coding skills in order to build a test framework.
• Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders
• Mentor other team members in order to develop their skills and knowledge in test automation and CI/CD pipelines
• Bring new ideas and technologies to the table
• Support knowledge transfer to the Buyer by way of documentation, show and tells and pair work where required

You will have:

• Significant and demonstrable experience of working with a delivery team in the role of tester.
• Experience in automated testing using tools such as Cucumber and Selenium
• Strong in writing unit, integration, end-to-end and smoke tests
• Experience with continuous delivery, continuous deployment and automation
• Proven record of using Test Driven Development (TDD)
• Experience with the Cloud, using AWS
• Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
