Onsite/Hybrid Corpus Christi TX
The Linux Systems Specialist installs, configures, and maintains assigned server operating system(s). The position implements, integrates, and supports a variety of server and desktop applications. Provide technical support for computer Energy Management (EMS) Systems or Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and other technical infrastructure used in Transmission Operations centers. Position requires a high degree of adaptability, and a focus on meeting customer needs and continuous improvement in the systems supported. EDOps equipment is used to control high level security SCADA environments and training scenario’s. This position will assist in areas of standard IT/Infrastructure development and the ability to organize and coordinate with customer needs.
Responsibilities and Duties:
– Installs, configures, documents, and maintains assigned operating system(s) hardware & software.
– Schedules and performs installations & upgrades as needed.
– Maintains assigned system security and backup / recovery procedures.
– Troubleshoots problems associated with assigned server, desktop hardware, operating systems, and application software.
– Resolves problems or escalates for further support.
– Provides recommendations for hardware, systems software, and capacity budgeting & planning.
– Evaluates new and existing application software products. Recommends upgrades or new purchases.
– Develops, tests, and documents disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
– Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
– Perform other duties as assigned.

Education requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering related field Or Associates degree with 2 years system administration related experience Or High School Diploma/GED with 4 years system administration related experience.
Work Experience: Minimum of 4 years System Administration related experience (in addition to any experience identified above). Technical certification in administration technology field preferred, but not mandatory
1. Demonstrate detailed understanding of operational practices of applicable equipment and software in assigned areas of knowledge
2. Strong skills in communication, issue resolution, organization, and facilitation are essential.
3. Solid experience and understanding of various Linux systems.
4. Experience with SCADA systems is a plus.
5. Perform troubleshooting and problem resolution in assigned areas of knowledge.
6. Provide after-hours support for the EMS/SCADA systems as needed.
7. Learning current technology utilized by AEP and understanding how it applies to SCADA.
8. Able to understand basic SCADA applications and the affect it has on overall SCADA.
9. Experience with Nutanix is a plus
