Job Title: Program Specialist – GED Instructor
Reports to: Career Build Program Manager

Project Youth Plus is looking for a dynamic, engaging person to add to our team. This member will provide GED and Basic Skills instruction to youth aged 16 to 24 who are in need of alternative options for completing their secondary degree. This position is responsible for developing curriculum and providing individualized assessment and instruction to ABE/GED students as well as those students who need to improve their reading and mathematical skills.
Position is flexible to provide youth instruction both during and outside of typical business hours. This position will provide instruction in both Grants
Pass and Medford, Oregon on a weekly basis.

Educational Assessment and Evaluation

• Administer and placement tests to determine appropriate study plan for individual.
• Administer and score GED practice tests to determine when a student is prepared for each test.
• Calculate student contact hours; prepare attendance rosters in a timely manner.
• Evaluate student progress regularly.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date records and student files.
• Register and orient students to CB Career Series programming and GED Academy.

GED and Adult Basic Skills Curriculum and Instruction

• Using a variety of instructional methods and techniques, instruct students in the application and management of individually designed instructional programs to facilitate optimum learning.
• Maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
• Evaluate, suggest, and preview new instructional material.

Individualized Student Planning

• Develop an individualized program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of each student.

• Provide regular assessment and realignment of individualized program on a regular basis.
• Provide a strong connection to Coaches and other Project Coordinators so that they are able to support their youth enrolled in Career Series.
• Communicate with students regarding instruction, program services, and progress.

Relationships and Cultural Competence

• Develop strong inter-personal bonds with families, youth and community partners.
• Demonstrate a passion for serving low income and under-represented youth and families.
• Demonstrate cultural competence working with youth and families from diverse social, economic, ethnic, educational and cultural backgrounds.
• Mentor, advocate, and counsel students to develop resiliency and strengthen life skills.
• Encourage and/or develop family support to bridge school, college and career transitions.

Additional Duties

• Responsible for tracking, maintaining, and reporting outcomes aligned to the project
• Project management including timelines, staffing, organization, planning, and reporting
• Developing sustainability opportunities for the project

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree plus at least three years of relevant experience, or some equivalent combination of education and experience
• Relevant experience includes prior educational instruction, GED instruction, curriculum development, tutoring, or youth development

• Experience in an alternative education setting with GED instruction highly preferable
• Spanish speaking/writing will be an asset
• Ability to provide instruction on a flexible schedule that includes at times working evenings and weekends
• A valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable vehicle for outreach activities
• Ability to clear a standard criminal background and driving records check

Compensation
The starting salary range is: $41,500 – $45,500 per year, plus a benefits package that includes paid vacation and holidays, medical/dental (after successful completion of a 60-day probationary period). Also included: sick leave, HRA reimbursement, professional development support, transportation mileage reimbursement and 401K Retirement Plan after one year of employment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $51,000.00 – $57,000.00 per year
