Instructional Designer
Job Description Summary:
The Instructional Designer is responsible for the creation and maintenance of our training programs across the entire business platform. They will participate in the planning, prioritization, and creation of new training programs along with updating existing training content. This role requires advanced knowledge and experience building learning and development products from the ground up that can scale with our growth. Previous facilitation experience is a plus. Our training products are our business, and the ideal candidate knows how to take a vision/strategy and build world-class content and curriculum from the ground up for a variety of modalities (on-demand, virtual, in-person, train-the-trainer). On this team, we will challenge learners’ understanding through relevant activities, author measurable learning objectives, and develop materials that promote transfer, retention, and application. We work under tight deadlines with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where quality, creativity, and accountability are traditions.
This role will report directly to the Senior Director of Learning and Development.
Primary Responsibilities: Top 20%
1. Designs World Class Training Products
a. Designs world-class products and content that drives the overall business growth in all key product categories: Individual Membership, Corporate Training, Certification, and all ancillary products b. Manages the delivery and sale of training materials via the learning management system c. Evaluates our current training and, assesses the gaps, re-designs or enhances the program for 10X growth and 80% success rate of candidates
2. Supports the membership experience to hit retention and growth goals a. Manage our current and future LMS system to ensure the technology scales with our membership growth and supports our overall growth plans b. Maintains the content and learning experience for our individual membership and corporate membership products c. Builds ongoing content for our individual members that drives value (purchase and retention) d. Supports the organization on the development of content to support our community workshop experience e. Ensures a simple and seamless learning experience for our members that drives overall satisfaction, NPS, and retention.
3. Manages Projects a. Manages the project lifecycle for training projects and maintains project documentation on the shared drive and in project management software. b. Owns and creates both daily and long-term schedules using agile methodologies and ensures that goals and deadlines are clearly communicated. c. Identifies, communicates to management, and resolves any risks that may prevent the team from meeting deadlines. d. Schedules and attends meetings – sets agendas, takes concise and comprehensive notes, action items, and distributes them to appropriate personnel. e. Communicates with team leads and management, providing visibility on project status, risks, and opportunities.
Regular Work Activities: 80%
1. Design and develop all materials within scope including iterations and revisions based on feedback.
2. Work with subject matter experts to extract knowledge and best practices to be incorporated into training designs.
3. Manage and maintain training content and materials in the learning management system.
4. Support building our community platform internally (content and overall design).
5. Event Support – Goal Setting Retreat (virtual and onsite).
6. Build and Scale our training programs for the individual and corporate business.
7. Work collaboratively with operations, product, tech, and marketing to ensure the overall strategic goals are achieved.
Experience and Qualifications:
1. Minimum 5 years of instructional systems design experience on projects involving adult learners
2. Ability to work in a start-up culture and a willingness to roll up your sleeves and get the job done
3. In-depth experience with training content design and development
4. Experience analyzing, building, and assessing curricula for asynchronous and synchronous classroom-based or virtual training environments
5. Experience in managing the end-to-end project lifecycle for training projects; CAPM or PMP certifications a plus.
6. Fluency with instructional systems design models and methodologies, authoring tools, and learning management systems integration
7. Experience in video editing
8. Strong graphic design skills
9. Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite of products
10. Experience in sales or a good understanding of sales skills in both a B2B and B2C environment
11. Experience working collaboratively with peers and support teams on multi-faceted projects
12. Superb written and verbal communication skills and proficiency in writing instructional content
