We are a design and manufacturing company specializing in sheet metal and plate production and are looking for an experienced estimator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Head Estimator is to read and interpret plans, proposals and other documentation to create bids. Track and analyze data to reduce gaps between estimates and actual costs. Obtain and track material costs and assist COO in negotiating material costs. The Head Estimator will receive weekly material updates with our suppliers and maintain the accuracy of these material costs within the company’s bid spread sheets. The Head Estimator will prepare and present estimate documentation, including filling gaps in available data.

The Head Estimator must have the ability to identify fine details helps uncover the project costs and allows for an accurate estimate. Reading and understanding blueprints is key for the head estimator’s role. Consulting with the executive branch on all contract negotiations. Provide oversight and first draft pass at all PO’s and incoming orders. The Head Estimator will seek the approval of the executive branch prior to submit any pricing or contract negotiation.

The Head Estimator must be knowledgeable, accurate, diligent, and analytical. They must be able to take on each job and make accurate estimates, as well as actively looking to improve future estimates and results. The Head estimator is responsible for sending clients Sales Order Agreements, assist in negotiating PO’s and helping close contracts. The Head Estimator will also create Invoices for deposits. The Head Estimator will work closely with the CEO on all A-Typical works to set forth pricing. The Head Estimator is also responsible for weekly follow ups with clients on all open and unpaid deposits. He will coordinate with all sales teams, internally and externally to make sure all project follows are executed.

The Head estimator will also be responsible for coordinating all takeoffs and project details with the Design and Engineering Department. Working with the Design and Engineering Department to identifying and answer any questions that the Design and Engineering Department may have and assist in clarifying scope of the work contracted. Additional coordination with the Design and Engineering department will be paying close attention to any requests for revised pricing (Change Orders) while each project is in production.

The Head Estimator is also responsible for tracking all out going estimates. A daily, weekly, monthly quarterly and annual spreadsheet will be updated daily to provide metrics necessary for the executive branch. He will be responsible for projections on projects bid and establish a metric of Bid to award ratio.

The Head Estimator must evaluate current or future processes with a willingness the change and implement better more efficient or productive methods in the creation of the company’s products. The consistent pursuit of excellence while always striving for improvement within our process.

Extensive knowledge of all phases of the manufacturing process from design to finish product
Experience in cost control and lean manufacturing philosophies
Great interpersonal skills and a good sense of humor
