Overview
The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory is
a world-class fusion energy research laboratory managed by
Princeton University for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of
Science. PPPL is dedicated to developing the scientific and
technological knowledge base for fusion energy. The Laboratory
advances the fields of fusion energy and plasma physics research to
develop the scientific understanding and key innovations needed to
realize fusion as an energy source for the world.
The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory
would like to fill a Staff Research Physicist role within the
Plasma Science & Technology and Tokamak Experimental Science
Departments.
This role will be dual in nature and time
will be split between FLARE (50%) and WEST (50%) projects.
The Staff Research Physicist will be
working with other physicists, engineers, technicians, and graduate
students to operate the new FLARE (Facility for Laboratory
Reconnection Experiments, https://flare.pppl.gov) device
towards to collaborative research facility and perform experimental
research on magnetic reconnection and related topics on it. Close
collaborations and interactions with physicists with a broad range
of backgrounds are required. Before FLARE is operational, the
candidate will perform research on reconnection-related experiments
on the existing MRX (Magnetic Reconnection Experiment) and DIII-D
Tokamak.
The Staff Research Physicist will also
collaborate on experiments at WEST Tokamak in the south of France
(Cadarache Provence). WEST is designed to investigate steady state
operation in a tungsten environment in support of ITER research
