Overview

Campus Support Services, a division of
University Services, provides a broad range of event, performance,
and venue support services for the Princeton University community.
The Performing Arts Services unit manages a historic concert hall,
Richardson Auditorium, and dedicated student performing venue,
Frist Theater, and provides support for multiple University
theaters and venues.

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Production Technician, Audio
Specialist, working in collaboration with other Production
Technicians and Audio Engineers, provides daily operational support
for events, rehearsals and productions in Richardson Auditorium and
other spaces. The Technician specializes in audio support,
providing live sound engineering and recording services. In
addition, the Technician may provide lighting, video, staging, and
stage management support.

In advance of performances, the Technician
supports the logistical planning for events. The Technician
participates in load-in and load-out of equipment and supports the
setup of the technical in-house and rented equipment. During
rehearsals and performances, the Technician will work closely with
presenters and performers to meet their needs. The Technician
provides support as an audio engineer, operating live sound for
rehearsals and performances, and serving as the front of house
audio engineer.

The Technician ensures that all audio
equipment is working properly. The Technician must be capable of
troubleshooting and resolving technical issues. The Technician
helps maintain a safe and compliant environment, which meets the
OSHA and University requirements for worker, performer, and patron
safety. The Technician ensures that all stage elements are secure
and safe. The Technician understands that the expertise level of
the presenters varies and is capable of being flexible and
supportive throughout all phases of the production process.

With an emphasis on service excellence,
the Production Technician, Audio Specialist provides excellent
support for students, faculty, staff and external clients.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides technical operational assistance
for events in Richardson Auditorium, with an emphasis on audio
support, including the setup of audio systems and operation of live
sound during events.
• Provides supplemental production support in venues across
  campus, including Taplin Auditorium, Frist Theater, Lewis Arts
  complex, Frist MPR rooms, Class of 1970 Whitman Theater, Wilson
  Black Box, Forbes Black Box Theater and outdoor spaces.
• Assists with the repair and maintenance of the audio production
  equipment in Richardson Auditorium and Frist Theater and other
  campus venues as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

within and outside the University, possessing good judgment and
discretion. The Technician must provide a high level of
service.

Specialist reports to the Senior Production Manager of Performing
Arts Services.

REVIEW OF WORK

Annually, the Senior Production Manager of
Performing Arts Services will provide a performance review of the
Production Technician, Audio Specialist, as well as ongoing
professional development.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL
QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of three years of experience in live audio production,
  preferably in a University setting or comparable experience in the
  live event industry
• Minimum of three years of experience with Digital Audio
  Workstations
• Demonstrated proficiency with large format audio digital
  consoles
• Demonstrated experience mixing live music, spoken word
  presentations, etc.
• Willingness and ability to work with a flexible schedule,
  including early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays and long
  hours
• Working knowledge and demonstrated abilities of providing live
  audio support, including microphone selection and placement, signal
  routing, equalization
• Strong computer skills (Mac and PC)

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Strong experience using digital platforms including Allen &
  Heath D-Live, Avantis and SQ, Midas X32/M32 series consoles
• Familiarity with Digital Audio Software: Pro Tools, Logic,
  Studio One
• Strong understanding of digital audio transmission systems
  including Dante, MADI and AVB protocols
• Experience other areas of production operations including stage
  management, lighting instruments, control and setup, video system
  setup and presentation software (PowerPoint, Keynote, etc)
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to assist all levels of student, departmental, and
  external performers and presenters, from professional to
  novice
• Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical
  stakeholders
• Ability to troubleshoot issues in a timely manner
• Experience mentoring students is highly desirable
