Overview
The Director of University Services
Information Technology leads the effort to offer onsite computing
support to the whole of University Services under the leadership of
the Executive Director while enhancing the mission and vision of
University Services, which will benefit the Princeton University
campus community.
Chartered in 1746, Princeton University
currently has enrolled approximately 7,900 students (5,300
undergraduates and 2,600 graduate students) and employs
approximately 6,100 benefits-eligible employees. University
Services focuses on providing high quality, integrated services to
the University community. The departments of Campus Dining, Campus
Support Services (Instructional Support Services, Performing Arts
Services, Venue Services), Conference and Event Services and
University Scheduling, Housing and Real Estate Services, Print and
Mail Services, The Service Point (integrated customer service
center), Talent and Organizational Development, Transportation and
Parking Services, and University Services Administration (which
includes Finance, Communications, and Information Technology) are
housed within University Services. The mission of University
Services is to provide centralized services that support the unique
needs of the campus’ living, learning, teaching and research
communities.
The Director will oversee the increasingly
complex IT environment of University Services. The Director for
Information Technology for University Services will provide
strategic direction and manage the computer resources of Princeton
University Services including hardware and software. The Director
will provide expert technical, security and information technology
(IT) asset management for University Services. The Director will
establish and execute computing security and function policies,
direct the IT technical staff and strategic IT planning/budgeting
process, and integrate University Service’s IT infrastructure into
that of the University. He/she will lead the University Services
data analytics initiatives, enabling departments to set
departmental goals, evaluate results, improve decision making, and
gain real time insight into operations. The Director is responsible
for maintaining relationship with varying constituents, both
internal and external.
This position reports directly to the
Executive Director for University Services and oversees a
department of six. In addition, there are three staff who have a
dotted line reporting relationship with the Director. The Director
will need to be a strategic thinker that can translate University
Services business goals and vision into IT functionality and
support.

COMPLEX TASKS:
The successful candidate must be a
strategic thinker who is flexible and adaptive to the evolving
needs of University Services, able to work autonomously and with
initiative, and be adept at problem solving. The Director must
interact effectively with individuals at all levels within and
outside the University, and possess the judgment and discretion
needed to handle confidential information. The Director must
possess excellent management, analytical, and customer service
skills. He/she will assess the needs of staff, clients, and
customers and will work with the appropriate University Services
departments to assure that expectations are met. The Director will
make recommendations to senior staff on short and long-term
computing initiatives as well as decide how to organize workflow
and procedures to most efficiently expedite the requests of the
staff of University Services.
The Director must be able to collaborate,
establish credibility and build relationships with senior
leadership and constituents. The Director must be able to balance a
heavy workload and work effectively with a varied group of people.
The Director must also be able to handle multiple tasks on a daily
basis while overseeing staff members.
DECISIONS:
The Director will need to make independent
management and procedural decisions based on established University
policies which will impact the department and the campus community.
These decisions must be collaborative in nature and ensure that the
department is functioning at an optimum level and in
compliance.
ORGANIZATIONAL
CHARACTERISTICS:
The Director has responsibilities within
all components of University Services as well as interacting
closely with all departments within University Services. The
Director will be expected to maintain confidentiality with respect
to all aspects of University Services.
