The successful candidate will conduct
experiments, modeling and analysis in the area of liquid metals for
nuclear fusion applications, with an emphasis on the design of
plasma-facing components for fusion devices. The candidate will be
based onsite in Princeton NJ, and will participate in the design of
flowing liquid metal divertor concepts, including experimental
measurements of liquid metal flows in the LMX-U device and possibly
in other national or international fusion test reactors, numerical
simulations to study liquid metal flows in reactor scenarios.
Occasional travel to support collaborative research on offsite
facilities may be required
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be
responsible for optimizing designs, coordinate the construction of
liquid metal systems (hands-on involvement required), organizing
analysis, and disseminating results in the form of talks, posters,
and refereed journal articles, principally related to liquid metals
for nuclear fusion applications. The candidate will participate in
collaborations at PPPL, including designs and/or construction of
future liquid metal systems on a range of devices.
