The Princeton Public Library, located in the heart of Princeton, Indiana, is a small, independent library serving 11,864 residents, and all of North Gibson School Corporation with a staff of 13. The library is open 64 hours a week Our library has been part of the community for over 100 years, starting as a Carnegie Library in 1905. Princeton Public Library is proud to be reciprocal with all of Gibson County libraries, along with being an Evergreen member with access all Evergreen Libraries across Indiana.
Located about 30 miles north of Evansville, we are proud to have Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Indiana in our community. They have been an important supporter of our community.
The Director reports to the appointed seven-member Board of Library Trustees.
Mission Statement: The mission of the Princeton Public Library is to enable all citizens of the community to improve their quality of life by providing opportunities for lifelong learning and recreational experiences.
Library Director
The Library Director has the main leadership role in our library. Typical duties include preparing and overseeing the budget, developing employment and service policies, strategic planning, public and governmental relations, reporting to the board of trustees, ensuring compliance with laws, fundraising, hiring, motivating and firing staff, and more.
In our small library the director handles everything from locking the doors to paying the bills. Please see an expanded list of duties and responsibilities, below.
Education/Experience
In addition to the basic educational requirements needed for a career as a librarian (including a MLS, preferably from an ALA accredited program), applicants must be able to obtain a Librarian Certificate Level 2 from the Indiana State Library.Candidates for the library director should have a demonstrated interest in professional development through attending workshops, conferences and participation in continuing education. Ten years of experience as a librarian with five years of managerial or administrative experience is required.
