We can blast pupils into space, drop them into the rainforest and even take them to the depths of the ocean. About the role

The successful candidate(s) will be responsible for delivering our workshops to schools across the South East of England. Specifically, the candidate will be covering areas across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Surrey, Hampshire, West Sussex, Wiltshire and parts of London. As this is a freelance role, candidates can choose to accept or decline school bookings.

Our leaders need to be enthusiastic, friendly and professional at all times to ensure that students and teachers have an exceptional experience delivered by PrimeVR. Although our virtual reality headsets provide a real ‘wow’ experience, it’s our workshop leaders that are responsible for creating a safe and effective learning environment. It’s important to us that students are engaged and challenged throughout with questions, discussions and activities.

Key characteristics

In order to join the PrimeVR team, you must be:

• An excellent communicator (both verbally and in writing). You will be responsible for presenting to students from KS2 (7 years old) all the way up to KS3 (14 years old). You will also need to be confident in communicating with school staff, from senior leaders to the premises team.
• Organised, punctual and reliable. It’s a huge effort for schools to book workshops and invite external visitors onsite. Risk assessments, permission slips and logistics take a lot of planning for schools. It’s our responsibility to ensure we are on time, and that we know what we are doing by delivering an experience above and beyond expectations.
• Calm, patient and friendly. As all teachers (and parents) know, children can be testing at times. It’s important that no matter what situation you are presented with, you are able to keep calm and work under pressure.
• Hardworking and motivated. A typical day in a school starts at 9am and finishes at 3pm but you must operate at 100% during this time and your enthusiasm should be contagious. If you’re despondent, tired or not ‘feeling it’, this will rub off on the students in your workshop.
• Proactive and passionate. We want people to come up with new ideas and contribute to the development of our workshops. We cover some really interesting topics, from Rainforests to Outer Space and we want workshop leaders who share our passion for delivering these subjects.
• Comfortable with technology. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist, but you need to be comfortable around technology and willing to learn. Taking the time to be curious through trial and error is one of the best ways to learn about our technology.

Responsibilities

• Commuting and driving to schools in your designated region. Workshop leaders are not obliged to accept bookings and travel commitments can be discussed during the interview process.
• Arrive at the school in good time (usually 9am), set up our VR headsets, deliver four inspiring workshops across the school day and finish by 3.30pm. Start and finish times may vary depending on the school booking.
• Promote PrimeVR’s other workshops and services in schools and distribute learning materials to teachers and students.
• Manage and maintain PrimeVR’s equipment, ensuring the headsets are always cleaned and charged after a school booking. You will also be responsible for the safety of the equipment. This will include ensuring that schools adhere to our terms and conditions and that PrimeVR’s insurance policy is met regarding storing the equipment.
• Depending on your region, you may be asked to coordinate and share VR equipment between team members.
• Provide feedback and a summary of the day to the CEO.

Requirements

• Experience in a classroom or through sports coaching is desirable but this is not essential. Having confidence to present and an enthusiasm for delivering a subject can be enough.
• A clear enhanced DBS certificate. You also must be willing to sign up to the Update Service.
• A full UK driving license with access to a car.
• A willingness to travel across your region, with potential drives up to 2 hours. Open to staying overnight is also a bonus.
• High standard of literacy (minimum Grade C in English Language)

• 0.45p/mile travel expenses, outside of a 20-mile radius

Information to declare about this role

• This is a freelance/self-employed role. Due to the nature of our business, we cannot guarantee work and so this role would suit someone looking for a flexible working arrangement.
• The successful candidate will be responsible for declaring their own income with HMRC through self-assessment.
• If candidates are not on the Update Service with an enhanced DBS certificate, PrimeVR will need to submit an application (this can take up to six weeks). PrimeVR will pay the cost of the DBS certificate, but candidates will be responsible for signing up to the Update Service (£13/year).

PrimeVR team members are welcome to wear a face mask whilst on school-site and a minimum of 2m can be maintained during the delivery of the workshops.
