Quality Assurance Technician Food Dairy Plant

The QA technician works daily in the lab testing and maintaining / verifying many records for our programs and policies. They are required to conduct testing for microbiology, quality and environmental controls. They work within the plant facility in every department observing processes and GMPS are being conducted in a compliant and accurate manner. Must be a team player and enjoy learning

Skills / Training:

• Personable and professional
• Excellent communication skills in verbal and written format
• Proficient in Word & Excel
• Education if Food Sciences or equivalent degrees
• Experience in food manufacturing
• Product development an asset
• HACCP knowledge or experience
• Allergen control experience, Peanut free, Gluten free and Kosher knowledge
• BRC or GFSI experience
• CFIA and regulatory experience for SFCR
• Strong research capabilities
• Dairy experience an asset
• Investigative skills for root cause analysis
• Astute attention to detail
• Organized
• Ability to accurately follow laboratory procedures and utilize aseptic techniques
• Ability to multitask
• Ability to delegate
• Ability to problem solve and conduct validations
• Trained on critical control points and their verification
• Ability to coach and communicate well with team members on changes and procedures

Duties:

• Performs laboratory testing (in process, finished product, air, water, environmental)
• Ensures finished product shelf life samples are collected, retained and evaluated
• Checks laboratory equipment calibration
• Maintains and verifies records and written procedures (SOPs and forms). Performs updates as required and reports relevant information to those responsible.
• Assists with updates the HACCP plan and prerequisite programs
• Participates in HACCP Team meetings
• Back-up member of the Recall Team
• Ensures BRC requirements are met and implemented in programs
• Implements corrective actions to non-conformities
• Investigates customer complaints
• Performs product development changes
• Trains and coaches employees
• Works with plant employees, customers, regarding quality and food safety issues

The position is 40 hours a week (4 x 10 hour days) Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday as required for production needs (on occasion 5 x 8 hours shifts are required). Flexibility is required to meet the scheduling of production. A benefit plan is available. Drivers license and car is required due to limited bus access to the industrial park. The QA Technician is expected to work with all departmental employees adding benefit to the overall process of the plant. Assists in third party audits as well as corrective actions resulting from audits. The job is active in testing in the laboratory as well as involves on the floor activities and inspections in the plant area.
