PRACTICE Benefit Corp Hiring for Reading Tutors: K- Grades at Denver, CO Full Time

Opportunity

We are seeking dedicated tutors for our 30-day tutoring positions to provide onsite reading tutoring sessions for elementary students in kindergarten through first grade (K-1) across Denver Public Schools. The tutors will work with students in small groups (5:1) using the Sound Sensible program and support their foundational reading skills. Tutoring programs will typically run three days a week from April 24, 2024 through May 24, 2024 during the school day and will operate between 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Exact program dates and times vary by school.

Key Responsibilities

• Instructional Leadership:
• Provide small group instruction and one-on-one tutoring to support student learning gains
• Collaborate with teachers and school leaders to develop a data-driven mission and vision for school improvement
• Be a compassionate mentor, fostering high expectations for students and addressing their academic and personal needs
• Learning and Professional Development:
• Continuously improve your teaching effectiveness through reflection and professional development opportunities
• Ensure equitable access to effective support, challenging learning opportunities, and educational resources
• Communicate your work effectively to teachers and staff, supporting their efforts in the classroom
• School Culture:
• Foster a professional culture of engagement and commitment to the education of the whole child
• Uphold norms of respect, caring, learning, and safety while promoting a culturally responsive environment
• Encourage staff-to-student relationships and promote student voice, agency, and leadership
• Management:
• Collaborate with school staff to ensure smooth student progression through their academic journey
• Build positive relationships with students, staff, and other stakeholders to impact school operations
• Promote staff wellness best practices, and fostering a healthy work-life balance

Qualifications

• Experience as a Substitute Teacher, Retired Teacher, AmeriCorps candidate, or other related background working with youth.
• Ability to commit to working 15-25 hours per week at an assigned school site
• Willingness to participate in 1-2 hours of monthly professional development and training
• Dedication to supporting academic and personal success, particularly among minority and low-income students
• Ability to adapt tutoring methods based on students’ needs.
• Passion for educational equity and social justice

Compensation & Benefits

• Competitive pay rate of $20/hr with the opportunity to earn a $250 completion bonus. Total earning potential of $1200 over 30 days.
• Education Champions will be required to attend one virtual 30-minute event per quarter and complete 5 minutes of asynchronous training per week
