Responsible for complex activities associated with the functional work group’s accounting transactions, financial reports, and internal controls over financial reporting. This is a key contributor in a complex environment who may lead functional teams or projects. Uses technical knowledge of business operations and technical accounting to research complex accounting matters, provide consultations, assist in the implementation of new accounting standards, support the financial close process, support the SEC and regulatory reporting processes and review and assess the impact of emerging technical accounting and reporting developments on the business.

• Researches the impact of new accounting standards issued by the FASB, SEC and other regulatory bodies and provides ongoing consultation on technical accounting inquiries from the Financial organizations and the business lines. Documents and reviews the results of this research with management.
• Supports the financial reporting process during the SEC and regulatory reporting periods through the preparation and/or review of financial statement disclosures and supporting work papers. Reviews filings for compliance with GAAP, SEC and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Supports the monthly financial close process by preparing and/or reviewing journal entries and supporting workpapers. Reviews entries for compliance with GAAP and regulatory accounting requirements.
• Provides consultation on complex SEC and FERC financial reporting matters.
• Participates in, or leads, complex technical accounting projects to address accounting issues and business line needs. Takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions and makes use of knowledge of company operations, technical accounting matters and industry regulation.
• Disseminates technical accounting and reporting updates to the Financial Department staff and business lines.
• Assists in the preparation and review of accounting and reporting materials for senior management disclosure committee meetings.
• Supports and provides guidance for M&A activities.
• Evaluates accounting policies & procedures to reflect changes in business conditions, processes, and accounting guidance.
• Assesses the impacts of new systems on internal controls over financial reporting.
• Interprets internal/external business issues and recommends best practices. This may include the review of complex contracts and agreements to identify and address accounting implications.
• Works both independently and in team environments.
• Ensures compliance with legal and regulatory controls.
• All positions in which driving is an essential function of the job, regardless if the job code is marked safety sensitive or not, will also be included as safety sensitive.
• May be assigned an Electric Utilities emergency and storm role. This is a special assignment that comes into play during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service. This role may necessitate the need to work after-hours, outside of your normal schedule.
• The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change. In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.

Candidates must meet the basic qualifications and pass all required tests or assessments to receive consideration.

1. Bachelor’s Degree in business discipline with at least three accounting courses and 7 or more years accounting-related experience OR Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with a minimum of 4 years accounting-related experience and CPA or CMA certification. (Required to actively pursue certification within two years of the job effective date.)

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, MBA, or other advanced degree in business discipline.
2. CPA or CMA certification.
3. Experience in public utility accounting, SEC reporting and a working knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
4. Requires effective written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated ability to research and apply technical accounting guidance.
