The opportunity:

An exciting new opportunity exists for a Software Architect, Industrial Microgrids to join the team.

The candidate will have:

• A university degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a related subject;
• Relevant design experience or theoretical knowledge in the following areas:
  • Energy or industrial distributed monitoring or control systems o Internet communication technologies, IoT o Fieldbus systems
  • Mathematical and engineering principles of energy, utility or industrial systems.
  • Designing, developing, and executing industrial User Interfaces and Experiences (UI/UX)
  • One of either ReactJS, NodeJS or AngularJS o HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • UNIX/Linux machines on a command-line level
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and engagement skills

• Some tech experience that would be a plus:
  • Databases
  • Cloud-based architectures and applications, ideally with AWS o Agile Software development and DevOps (e.g. Github/JIRA)
  • Application software coding in scripting languages (Javascript, Python, Lua …) and modern web-integrated compiled languages (e.g. Go)

• A delivery-oriented approach with an ability to problem-solve issues independently
• Flexibility to adapt to new programming languages and tools and an existing codebase
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work to challenging deadlines with a team and partners in a small scale-up company
• A courteous and professional nature
• Ability to travel, occasionally for multiple days
• An Australian residency, or suitable valid visa for at least 1 year – Sponsoring for subsequent work is possible

By the end of this year, you will have:

Reporting to the Head of SW Engineering and the Principal Engineer, you will have:

• Developed a firm understanding of PowerTec’s Microgrid and BESS solutions, as well as the PaDECS® control system through peer-to-peer coaching and learning on the job
• Successfully and timely carried out the delivery of all aspects related to application design, SW tech-stack selection, architecture design, interface design, coding per specification, integration testing, functional verification testing and documentation of:
  • A Web-GUI/HMI and Web-API for an Advanced BESS and a Microgrid Control System
  • A Cloud-Application for aggregated Microgrid monitoring and control (Full-stack) o A new instance of a real-time controller application from the existing code base in a scripting language, for integration with the existing Microgrid control

• Analysed the existing end-to-end code base in conjunction with the head of SW-Engineering and supported deployments, updates and bug-fixes, including on the real-time control level
• Created a well-documented, version-controlled repository for joint ongoing development and customer documentation of the delivered software and interfaces
• Improved the tool landscape, design standards and life-cycle management for the PaDECS® product
• Supported development and site commissioning activities and occasionally travelled to customer and power asset sites for PowerTec existing and new projects
