About the opportunity:

We are currently recruiting a Software Engineer to join our dynamic IT team based at our Customer Support Centre in Walsall. The role is fully remote, however will require you to meet the E-Commerce Technical Lead once a week in the Darton area.

As a Software Engineer, you will report to the IT Project Manager whilst being a crucial member of the software development team working closely with the wider IT function and internal stakeholders.

The Software Engineer will be working in a micro-service software ecosystem primarily focused on end-to-end eCommerce, including public & private applications. Development utilises Typescript at its core, with tools like GraphQL, Kubernetes, Elasticsearch, as well as with frontend technologies like React, webpack, and SASS.

The role will come with an opportunity to study an apprenticeship within the relevant area.

What you’ll be doing:

As a Software Engineer, your duties will consist of:

• Participating in the entire application lifecycle, with a core focus on software development
• Designing and implementing highly scalable applications building a suite of micro-services based on requirements
• Understanding and implementation of security and data protection.
• Measuring and optimizing performance, ensuring stability, scalability, responsiveness, reusability, and code quality
• Investigating new technologies and processes where appropriate and tackling technical debt
• Proactively engage with emerging technologies to ensure the software maintains future fit and current
• Communicating closely with the software development and broader e-commerce team on duties

Additionally, you will be working in a micro-service architecture, and day to day will be exposed to the following:

• Typescript & React 17
• GraphQL & MySQL
• Kubernetes on Google Cloud Platform

What will you need:

• Robust knowledge around web development process is essential
• Comprehensive understanding of end to end optimisations
• Analytical and time management skills
• Strong communicator with a self-motivated drive for improvement
• Extensive Typescript + NodeJS & React experience is crucial for this role
• Development of cloud-based solutions experience is essential.
• Continuous Integration & GitHub experience will be highly beneficial.
