• To ensure that all children attending the setting are kept safe and receive rich and stimulating play experiences appropriate to their age and stage of development. • As Manager you have overall responsibility for the nursery and staff within it, ensuring they are performing to the highest standards. • Safeguarding children is your priority and you will be the Safeguarding lead. Speak Up against practices that don’t support safeguarding or our Core Values. • To recruit, support, train and appraise all staff to ensure high quality childcare practice and to develop staff teams and individual practitioners. • To effectively manage the day-to-day running of the nursery including financial operations, budgets and occupancy forecasting. • To ensure all legislation in relation to regulatory bodies, inclusion, safeguarding and health and safety is complied with and that company policies and procedures are adhered to and implemented. • Organise and deliver the Forest Schools programme throughout the year for children under 5. • Promote the Forest School and Outdoor Learning ethos with staff and parents. • Update and develop policies and procedures from the Forest School pack. This will require creative thought together with an informed understanding of statutory requirements and best practice for early years and forest school.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
Relevant Experience
A minimum of 4 years post qualifying experience in a full day care setting
A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory role in a nursery
Experience of leading and supporting staff teams to improve practice
Education and Training
A Childcare and Education qualification equivalent to NVQ level 3
A higher level qualification in Early Years Childcare and Education / Childhood Studies
Knowledge
A sound knowledge of child development for children from birth to five years
An understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum
An understanding of a play based approach to children’s learning and development and the importance of outdoor play
Knowledge and understanding of the statutory framework for the EYFS and the inspection processes of regulatory bodies
Knowledge and understanding of the key legislation related to childcare and education
Sound understanding of the Key Person role
A sound knowledge of child protection
Skills and Abilities
Excellent communication skills, written & verbal
Ability to develop effective relationships with colleagues, parents and outside agencies
Effective leadership skills
The ability to plan and organise workload
Ability to present clear and accurate reports
Proficient with computers and software packages

An understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities

A willingness to undertake further relevant training including some evenings and weekends
Experience as a Nursery Manager
Experience of Financial Management and Budget Planning
Experience of quality assurance
Current First Aid at Work Qualification
A Management or Leadership Qualification
A knowledge and understanding of research related to childcare and education
