Portland Engineering Inc. (PEI) is an employee-owned system integration company specializing in industrial control systems with fluid processing applications, primarily water, and wastewater treatment plants. Our engineers have also historically worked on systems for Boeing, Nabisco, printed circuit board manufacturers, and various timber processing facilities.We are looking for a Controls Design and Integration Engineer for our Central Point, Oregon office. At Portland Engineering Inc, though we encourage a higher level of independence than most firms, we especially encourage speaking up and communicating with teammates, however big or small a challenge may be.At PEI, each engineer can expect to be involved at every level of the project from bidding, writing submittals, making schematics in AutoCAD Electrical, PLC and HMI programming, VFD programming and commissioning, shop/factory testing, travel, onsite startup, onsite commissioning, onsite training, project closeout, and invoicing. We do not expect new hires to know everything immediately, or be alone on a project when they need help delegating tasks or responsibilities. Still, we expect them always to be ready to independently learn something new.Required: Must be able to travel independently.
Must be a US citizen or authorized to work in the US.
Preferred applicants must be within one hour’s driving distance of the Medford area or be willing to relocate.
Must be willing to work occasionally in an office (we do not have cubicles).
Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook.
Must be proficient in Adobe Acrobat (professional preferred).
Must be familiar and able to manage various software and firmware revisions for PLC, HMI, and CAD work based on the client’s needs with minimal assistance.
Ability to travel up to 20% of your time for installations, startup, and on-call service requests.
Education and Experience: BSc degree in engineering. Control Systems, Electrical, Automation or related.
Time spent in control, system integration, or electrical engineering work environment in a municipal or industrial setting.
Familiarity with electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, conduit schedules, floor plans, P&IDs, etc.
Working with AutoCAD Electrical designing control schematics, I/O schematics, control layouts, and P&IDs.
Managing revision control and title blocks.
Navigating and understanding project specifications and drawing packages.
Working primarily with Rockwell/Allen Bradley PLC and HMI controls. Additional experience with any of the following is a plus: Wonderware, Ignition, Siemens, Schneider, Automation Direct,
Working with alarm-callout/autodialer software.
Configuring and starting up variable frequency drives.
SCADA telemetry system design and integration
Working with historians, trending, and ing software.
General understanding of ethernet communications and network traffic.
Comfortable meeting and communicating with third-party vendors.
Sizing, ordering, and configuring instrumentation devices from vendors like Endress & Hauser, Ashcroft, Krohne, Hach, etc. (Flow, pressure, temperature, level, chemical).
Managing the budget of a project based on materials and labor inputs.
Preferred Experiencelicensed professional engineer (PE) preferred.
Worked closely with electrical or general contractors.
Writing proposals based on project specifications and drawings.
Experience working on public-bid municipal projects.
Answering on-request service calls to local municipal water treatment plants.
Working with virtual machines (VMware).
Serial and Modbus communications
Writing and submitting Operation and Maintenance (O&M) manuals.
Process controls of power, wastewater, or manufacturing plants.
Writing control strategies and testing plans.
Visual basic.
Knowing C+, pythons, or another related programming language is a plus but not required.
Familiarity with cybersecurity practices is a plus but not required.
