The Finance Support Officer will provide essential assistance to the Finance Officers to ensure the timely and accurate processing of transactional activities, particularly in regard to the payment of reimbursement claims by registered employers. The Finance Support Officer will also provide support to registered employers in completing quarterly returns and other claim forms, as well as assisting with the day-to-day administration tasks within the Finance team

The Portable Long Service Authority is an independent statutory body established to administer the Long Service Benefits Portability Act 2018. The Act, together with the Long Service Benefits Portability Regulations 2020 provide a Portable Long Service Benefits Scheme.

The Portable Long Service Benefits Scheme began on 1 July 2019 to ensure eligible workers in the community services, contract cleaning and security industries can build up long service benefits based on time in their industry, rather than with a single employer.

About the role

The Finance Officer is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of transactional activities, management of the Authority’s bank accounts, general ledger journals and reconciliations. They will also provide support with all financial services functions such as providing financial information, advice and reporting, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations relating to financial management in a Victorian Government Statutory Authority.

The Finance Officer reports to the Finance Manager, and is involved with:

• The daily accounts payable and receivable functions including purchase order and invoice processing, generating payments, receipting, bank reconciliations and general banking.
• The processing and payment of employer reimbursements including assisting employers completing the form, reviewing submitted forms and documentation, generating payments and bank reconciliations.
• Ensuring accurate financial data is maintained for the PLSA, via the preparation of appropriate month-end general ledger journals, reconciliations, statutory responsibilities, and reporting

About you

As the Finance Officer, you will be able to:

• Demonstrate experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll processing.
• Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to form sound working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Display strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy
• Sound commercial skills and understanding of financial services accounting concepts, reconciliation processes, statutory requirements, procurement, and risk management to assist with the provision of internal financial advice and delivery of financial operational requirements
