ABOUT AFAMS

AFAMS is the premier agency responsible for implementation, integration, and development of Modeling and Simulation (M&S) and training and analysis standards that support the US Air Force (USAF), Department of Defense (DoD), and mission partners requiring these capabilities to support the Warfighter in full-spectrum operations. As the lead agent for M&S within the USAF, AFAMS gathers requirements, seeks out potential solutions, and integrates legacy and emerging M&S solutions across the USAF and the DoD. The USAF has an M&S initiative that focuses on providing simulation and synthetic training as the critical capability to augment live training, act as an enabler for critical decision-making, and enhance human performance. In the current resource constrained environment, demand for M&S rises with the continuously evolving need for operational readiness and mission preparedness across the USAF, DoD, and with coalition partners. AFAMS focuses on providing innovative M&S services as the key to meeting this demand.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The role of this position is to provide technical expertise and engineering support to implement model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and other Digital Engineering (DE) practices for the SCARS (Simulator Common Architecture Requirements and Standards) program and AFLCMC/WNS (Air Force Life Cycle Management Center/Simulator Program Office) to include:

• Create and provision a collaborative modeling environment to support the access, sustainment, and use of the Operational Test and Training Infrastructure – Enterprise System Model (OTTI-ESM)
  • Manage a collaborative modeling environment to support digital engineering activities for training system acquisition and sustainment within AFLCMC/WNS.
• Create and manage a style guide to support modeling efforts and facilitate the integration of constitutive models into the OTTI-ESM
  • Sustaining the WNS MBSE Style Guide to standardize model appearance, content, capabilities, and s.
• Train personnel to create, sustain, and use the constitutive models of the OTTI-ESM
• Create and manage example models, support modeling of the constitutive models, and develop model capabilities
• Modify systems engineering processes and plans, facilitate organizational change management efforts, and create necessary documentation to support MBSE efforts in contract actions
• Develop and support MBSE and DE training
• Model training systems in SysML
• Reviewing documentation to ensure compliance with DE practices.
• Assist WNS engineering staff with review and interpretation of systems models.
• Collect and verify information to be included in modeling efforts, in coordination with program stakeholders and team members.
• Engage with program and project leadership to maintain communication and to provide effective recommendations for MBSE implementation.
• Maintain proficiency and expertise in the most current MBSE concepts, tools, techniques, and practices.
• Communicate program efforts, issues, and consequences to leadership.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related scientific discipline:
  • Bachelors and fourteen (14) years or more experience; Masters and twelve (12) years or more experience; PhD or JD and nine (9) years or more experience
• Experience with MBSE methodology
• Advance experience with enterprise modeling tools to model complex systems using SysML.
• Intermediate/Advance experience of one or more of these concepts as they apply to SysML: inheritance, aggregation, metadata chains, design patterns, loose coupling, high cohesion, abstraction, value properties, and methods.
• Advance experience in and understanding of Systems Engineering concepts.
• Ability to communicate with internal and external customers effectively both orally and written.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Secret security clearance.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE

• Familiarity with Air Force simulation platforms
