Job Description – GIS Full Stack Developer

We are an global aerospace data analytics start-up based in Oshawa, Ontario. We have an immediate opening for a skilled GIS Data Solutions specialist and back-end developer to support the deployment of our software products and to support the design of customized solutions for our customers.

You would have a background and qualifications in engineering or computer science, with required academic and professional experience in GIS systems. You are passionate about coding with spatial data sets and understand how to work with spatial data structures and interchange requirements between applications.

You’ll also be a friendly, driven self-starter who can work autonomously & work productively in the course of short sprints.

Responsibilities

• Strong Skills with Javascript, Typescript, PostgreSQL and Post GIS

. Manage geo-spatial data applications using Agile and Lean methodologies.

• Lead the development of Solution Designs for various spatial data and application/data integration projects.

• Self driven & motivated to review technical work against the solution design, instigate required changes to meet a high-quality standard of work

About You

This position requires the following certifications or combinations:

• Degree in Software Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, or Computer Science or other technical domain, with specific academic training in Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

• 2+ years of technical experience specific to spatial data analysis, spatial data management, and/or GIS software and services development

• Certifications in cloud infrastructure and/or Agile / Lean Six Sigma are highly desirable

Required skills and abilities:

• Knowledge of typical geographic data, systems and workflows for spatial data systems

• Familiarity with current GIS technologies and formats including QGIS, GeoJSON, PostGIS, vector tiles, etc.

• API Integration or Application Integration

• API design and specification

• Strong knowledge of web service technologies

• Working knowledge for solution design and/or architecture, including database design. Master data management and/or enterprise data warehouse or data lake design is a plus

• Design and development of Java or Python applications & scripts to build reusable components, including transformers or connectors

• Cloud infrastructure and services design and management (Microsoft Azure)

• Java, JDBC, Apache Camel
• Javascript, Typescript, Python
• Ability to use Markdown

• Knowledge and familiarity with the Software Development Life Cycle and DevOps required

• Use of Agile and/or Lean methodologies to deliver projects and solutions

• Team player with strong interpersonal skills, skilled at project management and cross-functional collaboration

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, unpredictable environment

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent, Fixed term contract

Salary: $52,424.00-$90,000.00 per year
