We are looking to recruit an innovative, forward thinking Design lead in our Reading Engineering Team.

We are looking to recruit an experienced Senior/Principal Design Engineer to take a leading role in helping to deliver a varied range of schemes including active travel schemes, public realm, and highway schemes within one of the UK’s leading independent consultancies.
For the right individual, this is an excellent opportunity to help develop a strategically important sector of the business. PJA is currently engaged in a number of exciting projects from highway improvement and access projects through to city wide regeneration and major active travel corridors.
The role will be leading and influencing the preliminary and detailed design of highways, active travel and public realm schemes including some associated infrastructure and agreements, such as S278 and S38 ensuring designs are prepared in accordance with current legislation, best practice, council policies and to the highest technical and quality standards., The candidate will have the opportunity to run their own projects, providing mentoring to influence and develop junior team members.
Our ideal candidate will have a degree in Civil Engineering (or other appropriate qualification), ideally hold a professional Qualification with the ICE, CIHT or similar, and be a forward thinker when it comes to developing design solutions within existing constrained environments. They will have gained extensive experience in the design of highways, streets, and other public spaces, with a good understanding of Manual for Streets, LTN1/20, DMRB and local authority design standards. They will be proficient in the use of AutoCAD and Civils3D for the design of horizontal / vertical alignment and have a good understanding of the design process.
They will also have:
– Knowledge of adoption agreements for roads and drainage (including S278, S38 & S104)
– Experience of negotiations with highway and planning authorities to agree proposed designs
– The ability to produce technical reports and design specification the ability to produce and review fee proposals
– Experience of the financial management and control of projects and working knowledge of different contract types and procurement options.
