Piedmont Search Group is recruiting for a Regional Finance Director (RFD) role in Charlotte, North Carolina, with a multi-billion-dollar revenue, fast growing, industry leading distribution company.

Our client has approximately 200+ locations throughout 28 states, Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, Latin America, Mexico and Canada with over 2,000+ employees. The company’s vast footprint, inventory and e-Commerce platform allows them to provide customers with best-in-class service when they need it and where they need it.

Our client has recently complete a very successful finance transformation in which they centralized all the FP&A and accounting work that was previously performed separately in the regions. This has allowed for the creation of a center of excellence at corporate headquarters with scale that can be leveraged. The accounting work has moved to Shared Services and the regional FP&A work has moved to HQ FP&A.

The newly transformed finance reorganization has resulted in improved standardization of processes, which in turn has driven higher quality and productivity. This structure has freed up the RFD to be focused on driving growth and improved profitability in the region, as a true business partner to the President of the Region.

Job Description & Responsibilities

The Region Finance Director (RFD) will function as a business partner to the Region President, focused on driving growth and improved profitability of the region. The right candidate will have a solid-line reporting relationship to the Region President, and a heavy dotted-line relationship to the VP Finance.

The Region Finance Director will be responsible for:

• Business partnership — as an individual contributor, the RFD will be the Region President’s trusted business advisor. Think and act like you’re the CFO of your region, including the following:

• Actively collaborate with other region functional leaders to understand key business challenges and provide insight and guidance on specific business issues or opportunities. Actively partner with these functions to drive desired business outcomes, including sales growth and margin expansion, optimizing inventory investment (S&OP process) and investing in the right human capital.
• Leveraging BI (Business Intelligence) to identify opportunities to enhance revenue growth and expand margins, including targeting underperforming customers, branches and opportunities for branch additions. The RFD must be seen amongst region leadership as an expert user of BI and converting data analysis into actionable intelligence to drive improved performance. This includes monitoring results daily in BI and posing questions to appropriate leaders to explain/address concerns.
• Ability to proactively develop actions (PAPs — profit assurance planning) to mitigate and counter downward pressure on EBIT. This should be done without the need for HQ to give directives on how to manage SG&A investments or other areas of the business. Think and act like you own the business and it’s your sole source of income.
• Develop and review capital appropriation requests to ensure business case assumptions are appropriate and financial returns are acceptable.

• Collaborate with credit and collections team to manage collection efforts, engaging the sales organization as needed. Manage credit risk taken for specific customers or jobs.
• Along with their Region President, owning the forecast and annual plan process for select income statement and balance sheet items, specifically:

• Revenue growth by category, including forward-looking assessment for each quarter, and providing timely revisions to top-line expectations. This must synchronize with PAP efforts in response to any eroding financial performance.
• Margin assumptions by category
• Headcount assumptions for permanent and temp labor and overtime assumptions
• Inventory levels including excess, slow and damaged assumptions
• Submit risks and opportunities for the above items for each month.

• Collaborate with Sales and Product Management team to establish and optimize customer and product specific price levels.

• Utilize PriceFX to review trends and customer specific contribution margins and recommend adjustments to maximize profitability.
• Manage and review monthly claim-back process
• Review price overrides to ensure sales team is making sound business decisions

Requirements & Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree — Business/Finance/Accounting; MBA a plus-not required
• 10-15 Years of Experience — Finance leader/strategic thinker/able to understand deep drivers of performance; focus on growth opportunities and sales effectiveness
• Experience/knowledge of HFM, Business Intelligence/Data Analytic tools; Skill set in data analytics and ability to query key data/prepare ad hoc reports and utilize prescriptive reports
• Strong communication skills required for interaction with leadership team members

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $150,000.00 – $170,000.00 per year
