Photonic Hiring for Lab Software Engineer at British Columbia Full Time

Lab Software Engineers at Photonic are part of the Quantum Development team, providing the software “surround” for our quantum processors based on silicon colour centres. You move fluidly from collaborating in the lab to articulating requirements to translating those requirements into clean production code. You are responsible for building and maintaining quality software used to conduct experiments that will guide the development of our quantum stack. You have experience in a lab setting and are familiar with interacting with laboratory hardware via code. You will work closely with impactful teams of software engineers and scientists on a range of topics. You enjoy learning new technology and new science, while bringing your software expertise, lab experience, and creativity to address challenges as we build the world’s first truly scalable quantum computing system.

WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO

Interact with laboratory hardware or electronic test equipment by code and be able to solve problems

Set up, test, and perform measurements using a wide variety of electronic, optical and mechanical systems and electronic test equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, digital multi-meters, data loggers etc.)

Develop and maintain our proprietary software framework used to run experiments

Collaborate with experienced, cross-disciplinary teams to conceive, design, and bring innovative quantum services to market

Work in an agile environment to deliver high-quality software

Effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions

Identify and resolve issues

Train, guide, and develop current and additional team members

WHAT YOU BRING TO OUR TEAM

Undergraduate degree or equivalent in computer science, engineering, experimental physics, electronics/electrical technology, or related field

2+ years of hands-on experience with modern programming languages (Python, Java)

2+ years of hands-on experience working in a laboratory setting and interacting with various equipment

Experience with the full life cycle of software management

Excellent communication skills and ability to express complex, technical concepts in a clear, easy to understand way.

Problem-solving skills and ability to resolve ambiguous requirements

Outstanding teamwork skills and experience working collaboratively with scientists, engineers, and other team members

Demonstrated ability to creatively solve problems, prioritize, and lead simultaneous tasks
