Phasefocus Hiring for Junior Software Tester Job at Sheffield, England Full Time

Phasefocus is a fast-paced technology company operating in the biotechnology sector. We are looking for a high-achieving graduate or equivalent to join our agile software development team working as a Junior Software Tester. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge to exciting real-world technology development problems and experience life in a maturing startup environment.

Unlike many larger companies, which can pigeon-hole graduates into unimportant side projects, at Phasefocus you’ll be primarily involved in the ongoing development effort on our flagship, state-of-the-art high-end optical microscope, used in a wide range of biological applications including drug discovery and cancer research. All subcomponents of the system are computer controlled and interfaced with via our proprietary desktop software package – Cell Analysis Toolbox.

Typical Day-to-day:

• Be an active and integral part of our software scrum team.
• Take part in Daily Scrum and team meetings.
• Work with the Development Team and Product Owner to understand the implications for testing of new software functionality and requirements.
• Convert those implications into structured test cases and with defined pass criteria.
• Carry out those test cases during the sprint as the functionality is developed.
• Feedback to the team any test results, exceptions, or concerns.
• Carry out additional integration testing around the functionality that is being developed capturing and logging error logs and reproduction steps.
• Perform additional smoke testing between sprints capturing and logging error logs and reproduction steps.
• Running and documenting a series of basic smoke tests on the relevant software.
• Running and documenting all relevant software regression tests, both functional and non-functional.

Currently our software development team are working from home full-time, indefinitely and have been since March 2020. This may change in the future. As a Junior Software Tester, you will be required to attend the office in person from time to time irrespectively to test the software using a microscope. Additionally, you may be required to attend the office more frequently during your probation period while you are learning your new role.

All benefits are based on full-time 35 hours. We will consider part-time applications where benefits will be pro-rata.

Must haves:

• You’ll need an eye for detail.
• At least a 2:1 in an IT/Software Engineering or similarly technical degree, from a leading UK university.
• Excellent communication skills.

• “Can do” attitude – we’re a small company and often need our team to muck in and help out when we get extra busy.
