People In power have partnered with a renowned ICP who offers a complete range of electrical design and consultancy services from initial feasibility studies, design/negotiation of Grid/Primary substations, electrical control/protection schemes, to full civil and structural design packages.

Due to significant growth in 132kV projects across the group, our client is in a position to build on their already established design team. The successful candidate will

• Lead and be responsible for producing, managing, and the delivery of EHV electrical designs across a whole range of electrical infrastructure projects.
• The right candidate, while acting as the technical specialist, will also be required to liaise with all internal/external parties involved in the design and construction process, ensuring their designs are fully compliant with statutory regulations, relevant industry standards, and customer guidelines.
• Candidates must be experienced working within or directly on DNO / IDNO connection projects. One of the unique selling points of our client is their experience and impressive portfolio of designing and delivering major 132kV schemes which this position seeks to grow upon.
• The projects will involve working across both the DNO contestable connections side and customers’ private networks. Candidates will be required to have a strong knowledge of this area and will be asked to demonstrate a proven track record working within projects such as substation construction (up to 132 kV), EHV cabling, and earthing surveys while being fully adverse to working on switchgear, protection, control, and major plant projects.
• While this role is ideal for an experienced electrical design engineer, the candidate must have a basic understanding of the civil aspects involved. There is a large civil element to these projects that need to interface seamlessly with the electrical works to ensure these works can be delivered on time.

Required skills and qualifications

• HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• Good knowledge of power systems, renewable energy, and protection design, mainly at 33kV to 132kV although knowledge at all voltages will be of benefit.
• Able to take a brief scope of works and produce a detailed design based on relevant standards.
• Preparing site layouts for multi-staged substations construction projects up to 132kV.
• Preparation of functional specifications and the ordering of high-value technical plant.
• The ability to specify and interpret manufacturers’ diagrams for the production of project-related control and protection schematics.
• Firm understanding and previous experience in producing complete electrical design packs for design approval and on-site construction.
• Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and Microsoft applications, in particular: Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint. Experience of specialist software like CDEGS, WinDEBUT, Amtech also desirable.
• Managing external civil design contractors and overseeing civil designs to ensure compatibility with the electrical requirements (desirable)
• The ability to produce protection settings and write relay program scheme logic (desirable)
• Acting as a consultant to our customers for any technical queries.
• Assisting the tendering department with technical guidance for any proposed schemes. • Competent in resolving a range of technical engineering issues and providing advice to internal design and construction teams.
• Awareness of current and technological developments in distribution plant and equipment.

Your compensation

• Salary between £50,000 – £70,000 depending on experience
• 25 days holiday (plus 8 bank holidays), with the option to buy or sell up to five days leave after the first year of full employment.

• The company will match your pension contribution up to a maximum of 5% after completing a six month probation period.

• £6,000 Car allowance.
• Normal hours of work are 40 per week with a half an hour unpaid lunch break.
• Flexible working is available but not desirable full time, two to three days can be considered depending on the ability of the individual to lead, design, and interface remotely.
