The organisation

Generation Australia (GA) exists to train and empower people with significant barriers to employment to build thriving, sustainable careers and to provide employers with the highly skilled, motivated talent they need. It is part of a global network in 18 countries and so far, has enabled over 100,000 people to find meaningful employment in various sectors. Whilst GA is a standalone business it leverages from its global affiliates. Generation was founded globally by McKinsey & Company in 2015 and launched in Australia in 2019. Since then GA has gone on to secure strong support from partners including Macquarie Group Foundation, Microsoft, and Accenture.

The organisation designs, builds and delivers accelerated training & employment programs supporting people facing barriers into thriving new careers. The organisation works exclusively with people who are unemployed, under-employed or at demonstrable risk of unemployment, including some of Australia’s most vulnerable communities – women, youth, people with disabilities, First Nations people and more. Their programs are built with significant industry input, and provide employers with high quality, motivated and diverse talent. Generation Australia also helps to build the capability of other education & training organisations, and work with government & businesses to transform the overall employment system.

The role

Building on the strong reputation and success of the former inaugural CEO, the primary purpose of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is to create an environment that enables Generation Australia to continue to flourish and grow and deliver strong impact for all stakeholders including the global network. The CEO’s core responsibilities span from shaping the company’s strategic trajectory, scaling up Generation’s operations, leading business development endeavours, diversifying revenue streams, upholding rigorous governance and financial protocols, all while inspiring a small, capable team.

Critical for the next chapter of success will be the CEO’s ability to analyse and strengthen Generation’s medium to long term financial position, by leveraging social enterprise opportunities. In addition, knowledge of the employment landscape and the CEO’s ability to strengthen and grow business development opportunities with the sector is key.

The successful candidate will be a seasoned business leader with hands-on, operational experience. You will be entrepreneurial and innovative in your approach with a positive, solutions and impact-oriented attitude. You will be financially and commercially astute, have the ability to lead and manage diverse teams, excel at stakeholder relationships at the highest level and possess a professional demeanour with excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
