Due to company expansion we are seeking to recruit Education Welfare Officers to work in Mid and West Cornwall from September 2022.
Hours will be calculated on an annualised basis and contracts are term time only (38 weeks). Pay is negotiable based on previous experience – having the correct staff matters to us!
The successful candidate will be expected to provide welfare support to families and schools where there are issues affecting school attendance.
Duties may involve advising parents/carers and children/young people on attendance matters as required and encouraging good home/school relationships which may involve counselling, building self-esteem and mediation.
Education Welfare Officers regularly liaise with schools, parents and other agencies to provide support as necessary. Therefore candidates must have strong inter-personal skills and the ability to mediate where needed.
Candidates are expected to complete reports for schools and for Court and therefore the role requires a high standard of communication both verbally and in written form.
Candidates should be educated to degree level and, ideally, have had experience in education; social care; youth work or a similar field.
The role may involve carrying out home visits so candidates must have a valid driving licence and have access to a vehicle. The successful candidate must also be able to adapt to working in different environments and be able to work under pressure and to deadlines.
Candidates should have a knowledge of
