About the role:
We are currently seeking a Part-time Accountant to be based at our Wambo Mine (Singleton NSW).
Reporting to the Commercial Superintendent, the scope of your role will support and assist the Commercial Manager in day-to-day site commercial activities including delivery of the quarterly financial operating and capital forecast, annual 5-year budget and completion of month end accounting requirements.
Duties will include:
- Active involvement in forecast and budget meetings to understand key changes in the business from a production and financial perspective
- Timely reporting of month end forecast and budget deliverables for Commercial Manager review.
- Identify cost and production trends as well as key business risks / opportunities for the attention and action of site management.
- Provide monthly cost reports to management team including detailed variance analysis to Budget.
- Completion of monthly reconciliations.
- Liaise with site management as to the timing of expenditure.
- Involvement in drafting Capital submissions to Head Office.
- Project work.
- Seek out more efficient processes in financial reporting and forecasting/budget process.
- Manage queries and requirements from corporate office and external and internal auditors.
- Participation in the SOX audit and financial end of year audit.
About you:
- Bachelor of Business (Accounting major) or Bachelor of Commerce (or similar)
- 5+ years’ experience in chartered accounting, auditing, or accounting role
- Previous experience with accounting software, SAP experience however not essential
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Strong organisational and time management skills, including ability to prioritise various projects that may be in process simultaneously
- Flexible and adaptable to changing responsibilities
- Attitude to approach challenges with enthusiasm and confidence to ask for help and seek clarification/direction on issues as they arise
- Effective written and oral communication and active listening skills including the ability to convey ideas and build relationships amongst the business
The lifestyle Peabody:
This position if offered on a Part-Time basis, 3 days a week (can be flexible with days of preference), and can allow for a residential lifestyle

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Prepare business performance and accounting reports

- Consolidate accounts in respect of one or more operating sites or subsidiaries
- Manage projects/processes, working independently with limited supervision
- Coach and review the work of lower level professionals when applicable
- Communicate information that requires some explanation or interpretation
- Ensure activities comply with safety, environmental and statutory requirements
- Other duties as assigned by the company

Physical Requirements
Physical Requirements – Surface Environment
- Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift
- Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
- Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders
- Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
- Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination
- Must have the ability to lift/raise 10 – 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the work shift
- Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area
- Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)
Physical Requirements – Underground Environment
- Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces for up to the entire length of the shift
- Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
- Must have the ability to walk for up to 4 hours at a time. Will be required to walk through different sections of the mine with varying degrees of clearance and headroom
- Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
- Must have the ability to bend or stoop for a full work period as a result of mine height
- Must have the ability to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders
- Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination
- Must have the ability to lift 25 – 50 lbs. on a frequent basis and the ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 80 lbs.
- Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area
- Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)

- Must have the ability to sit for up to 8 hours
- Must be able to use a computer and communicate effectively in various forms, including email and by phone
- Must have the ability to review paper and electronic documents and complete computer entry of data from paper documents
- Must be able to find, remove and return files to/from file cabinets and discuss issues by telephone and in person
- Must be able to operate copier, fax machine, etc.
Education
- B.S. in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field required
