Payroll Associate (Finance & Accounting) Job at Detroit, MI US Full Time

General Purpose:

The Payroll Associate will be responsible for owning the timely, accurate and efficient delivery of payroll. You’ll act as a resource for all of Stout’s 500+ employees by clearly addressing a variety of questions as they relate to transactions impacting payroll. The role reports into the Payroll Manager.

Major Responsibilities:

• Ensure accurate processing, reconciliation and recordkeeping of multi-state payroll
• Coordinate with vendors, and deliver pay accurately, timely, effectively, and within all regulatory, labor and tax guidelines
• Assure payroll deductions for employee contributions including 401k, insurance, and garnishments
• Assist in processing year end information including W2s
• Responsible for maintaining accurate employee records in Fidelity related to 401k deferrals
• Review payroll tax procedures and resolve issues from local taxing jurisdictions
• Resolve payroll issues and/or discrepancies
• Lead training initiatives and opportunities for finance staff on payroll
• Work closely with the Finance and Operations teams on initiatives and system enhancements to streamline our payroll function
• Maintain strong relationships with employees across a variety of departments including HR, Legal, and other internal functions while consistently delivering high-quality service
• Build out payroll reporting in Workday for various functions of the business to help manage operations
• Assist with any internal and external audits and examinations, including annual 401k nondiscrimination testing
• Interpret company policies and governmental regulations affecting payroll procedures. Stay abreast of changes in laws and regulations governing the processing of payroll.
• Work with HR on on-boarding and termination of employee and reconcile benefits invoices and create credit invoices for accounting.
• Assist with the termination process of employees, such as repayment of signing bonuses, calculation of PTO payouts, final paychecks.

Education and/or Training:

• 4-year degree in human resources, accounting, or related field.
• At least 2 years of previous payroll experience
• Experience running Workday payroll (preferred)
