Patterson-UTI Drilling (Company) has one of the largest and most technologically advanced fleets of drilling rigs in the United States and is actively interviewing in the Technical Services Department. The Asset Manager, Top Drives and Catwalks will be responsible for developing and overseeing execution of the life cycle management of top drive and catwalk equipment. This person will work directly with a number of functional areas including Technical Services, Operations, and Maintenance in an office setting and in the field to provide support, collaboration, and strategic vision for the Company.

Detailed Description

• Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Company
• Serve as the primary point of contact for equipment manufacturers to adequately track project status; distribute product line bulletins; collect and disseminate lessons learned; and confirm implementation across the Company
• Develop and maintain quality product review processes, utilizing cross-functional teams (internal and external) to analyze equipment data
• Lead the responsibility for identifying and managing quantity and quality of project deliverables within established project deadlines
• Define, produce, and communicate KPI results across the Company at set intervals for required equipment
• Assess equipment inventory levels and forecast future needs in order to initiate the process of procuring new top drive and catwalk equipment in a timely manner, including:
• Develop project budgets, initiate purchasing processes, forecast, track and report on costs
• Monitor the fabrication, assembly, and delivery of equipment and materials to ensure timelines are met
• Prepare and execute mitigation plans in the event suppliers do not meet timing, quality or specification requirements
• Ensure adequate levels of critical spares are stocked in each operating region to react to planned and unplanned events to supply top drives and catwalks to operating rigs while minimizing financial impact and non-productive time and maximizing regional/rig efficiencies
• Develop and maintain detailed maintenance work scopes and procedures for all top drives and catwalks, including operational, technical, and depot level maintenance
• Audit adherence to preventive maintenance work scopes and schedules; provide feedback and corrective action as gaps may be identified
• Ensure all operating equipment is compliant with Company depot level maintenance schedules
• Develop detailed design and procurement specifications for all top drive and catwalk equipment
• Dynamically troubleshoot and resolve problems by assessing severity and impact of issues that arise and take action to effectively communicate potential business and project impact when necessary
• Schedule and monitor field installation and execution to adhere to Company’s safety policies and procedures without fail
• Coordinate training for rig crews to effectively understand how to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot newly installed equipment
• Develop processes that work within the MOC (Management of Change) policy to ensure the standardization of equipment
• Lead risk assessments, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and root cause analysis relevant to top drives and catwalks and use findings to develop or refine planned maintenance and remanufacture/repair standards, specifications, and methods
• Produce trending analysis to assess the effectiveness of maintenance programs and procedures
• Develop and implement maintenance program budgets, plans and policies for all Company-owned critical equipment
• Establish, coordinate, and maintain Company warranty processes and guidelines
• Develop AFE (Approval for Expenditure) and purchasing processes; forecasts, and track and report on costs

• Ability to draft work instruction documents for field upgrades
• Proven ability to initialize, plan, execute, control, and monitor a project
• Ability to understand cost-to completion projections and make decisions accordingly
• Ability to develop forecasts and establish and manage budgets
• Ability to use a variety of techniques and tools to manage the project scope, cost, schedule, contractual deliverables and devise contingency plans to ensure
• Ability to analyze failure and reliability rates
• Good interpersonal and communication skills including ability to interact productively with coworkers and third parties
• Strong trouble shooting and problem-solving skills
• Negotiate pricing with vendors, using supply chain and procurement departments
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously to meet challenging deadlines
• Ability to demonstrate clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to promptly give, and follow directions when working with others
• Ability to develop business processes when necessary for improved organization or efficiency
• Possess knowledge of project management methodologies and tools, including cost estimating and scheduling
• Ability to regularly travel with very short notice, as needed, to visit work sites and support business units; may occasionally require extended travel to remote locations and/or overnight stay(s) outside normal office area
• Ability to work on weekends and be on call after hours as needed
• Ability to proficiently use Oracle EBS and MS Office Suite to develop presentations, correspondences, reports, and schedules (Word, Excel, Power Point, Project etc.) to drive efficiency in productivity

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Previous experience in a management position
• Must possess strong computer skills with a proven ability to utilize Microsoft Office Software, e.g. MS Word, Power Point, Projects, Visio, Excel etc. and other discipline specific-software applications to drive efficiency in productivity
• Must be eligible to drive a company vehicle and meet the requirements of the company vehicle use agreement and driving policy

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, or other technical engineering field
• 3+ years’ experience in oil field services or a related industry is preferred
• Knowledge and experience in inventory management is preferred
• Ability to develop forecasts and establish and manage budgets
• Knowledge and experience with mechanical, hydraulic and/or electric systems

Additional Details

This position requires the person to be able to work in a time sensitive, high visible role and regularly travel as needed to support business units and visit work sites. It may also require extended travel to remote locations and/or overnight stay(s) during variable hours. Variable work hours include hours worked on the weekend, on holiday(s), and hours to travel within and outside of the assigned region. The Asset Manager must work with an emphasis on planning, multitasking and prioritization to maximize efficiency of the team. Must be able to work closely with others and manage customer interaction in a professional manner. Ability to safely navigate work sites with occasional walking, climbing, standing, stepping, etc., during normal operating conditions (day/night, outdoor hot/cold weather) and while utilizing designated personal protective equipment (PPE). The person must be able to work closely with others assigned to the rig construction process.
