The Role
We are looking for a Sr. Engineering Software Support Specialist who can provide support to both internal users and external customers for all Particle Measuring System software and instruments. This position entails troubleshooting and developing technical solutions related to software and system configurations and providing expertise on software support standards, tools, and procedures. The Sr. Engineering Software Support Engineer also tracks software problems and works with developers to resolve issues and creates and executes software and instrument firmware test plans.
Specific Job Responsibilities:
  • Provides software and industrial network communications protocol support via phone and e-mail.
  • Resolves software and industrial network communications protocol issues in-house and at customer sites.
  • Troubleshoots system and network configuration issues.
  • Assists with the selection and installation of support tools and procedures.
  • Writes user technical notes.
  • Tracks software and industrial network communications protocol errors.
  • Works closely with other engineers to resolve problems.
  • Trains internal and external customers on the use of products.
  • Assists with the development of training curriculum related to network communications protocol
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field required
  • Three years technical support experience required
  • Three years software or firmware testing experience required
  • Demonstrated experience working with and understanding the industrial use of PLCs in automated production and manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated experience reading and utilizing process diagrams, SCADA block diagrams and control schematics to troubleshoot monitoring/control systems software issues and interfacing with PLCs.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing and troubleshooting industrial protocols like Modbus, Ethernet IP and OPC UA
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be a self-starter and work independently
The Nuts and Bolts
Location – This is an “in-office” position 20% of the time with Covid precautions being taken. The location of this position is in Boulder, CO. The remainder of the time you may work from home. These percentages are targets with the actual schedule to be determined in conjunction with the Manager’s expectations for the position. Will consider a remote U.S. based location for highly qualified candidates, contingent on being a maximum of 1 hour commuting distance to a major airport.

Pay Range
$80000 – 90000 depending upon experience
How we determine what we pay (compensation philosophy)
Particle Measuring Systems determines pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data, for the Boulder, Colorado area. We will evaluate external equity, which is the relative marketplace job worth of jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company.
For new hires, we try to make competitive offers between the minimum and around the midpoint of the range. This allows the new employee room for future merit increases during review cycles. There may be times when we will offer above the midpoint. The decision to do so will be based on the applicant’s level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. Additionally, we consider the external market rate, the amount we have budgeted internally, and the compensation rates of the employees within the company doing the same position.
