About the Role

This position is responsible for ensuring that all statutory obligations are met, accounting standards abided by and that accounting services are delivered efficiently to support quality financial operations. On a daily basis, you will:

• Review, analyse and prepare all statutory financial reporting and regulatory returns.
• Ensure financial controls and processes are implemented and maintained.
• Review, monitor and analyse financial reporting including baseline variance analysis.
• Maintenance of the Reserve accounting processes including reporting and recommended actions.
• Oversee the reconciliation of Council’s Balance Sheet accounts ensuring agreed controls are in place.
• Maintenance of Employee Leave Entitlements and other Balance Sheet accounts.
• Work with the Financial Accounting and Treasury Manager on the preparation of budgets and assist with long term financial plans.
• Communicate regularly with Finance’s key customers to ensure all their needs are being met.
• Communicating with the External & Internal Auditors to ensure compliance with accounting standards.
• Ensure open and clear line of communication with team members, leadership and executive team.
• Regular communication with finance unit and other service managers in order to highlight significant finance issues.
• Work on streamlining the financial reporting framework, both external and internal.
• Regular review of existing processes to identify new techniques to reduce administrative effort.
• Use analytical ability to identify potential risks to delivery of financial services.

About the Person

The successful candidate should have:

• Experience in preparation of annual statutory accounts
• Experience in financial reporting or financial audit
• Advanced used in excel

It would be preferred but not essential for applicants to have:

• Experience working with a large number of transactions
• Experience with AASB 1058, AASB 13, AASB 116, AASB 16
• Understanding the asset revaluation concept
• CA/CPA in progress
