Job Purpose: Assist the Company’s Safety Director in maintaining the Company’s successful and comprehensive programs related to safety, risk management, and loss prevention.
Essential Duties & Position Responsibilities:
· Ensure compliance with statutory and project regulations and procedures.
· Provide oversight and assessment of Safety and Health performance via data analysis, trending, and site visits/inspections.
· Participate collaboratively with field personnel in incident/near miss investigations.
· Collect, organize, and analyze all Safety and Health data and assist in the development and communication of lessons learned to field personnel.
· Act in advisory role for Safety and Health issues; coordinate safety initiatives.
· Follow up and ensure completion of action items identified as a result of audits, inspections, s, and suggestions related to Safety and Health.
· Provide necessary safety and health briefings, training, and orientations.
· Participate and provide assistance with Injury/Medical Management of Injuries, auto, equipment, and property losses.
· Monitor/facilitate provision, issuance, use, and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE) and first aid equipment.
· Develop proactive, positive behavior-based safety culture through personal leadership and commitment.
· Provide responsive, on-site Safety and Health expertise and services/resources to field project personnel.
· Help prepare for and assist the Employee Safety Committee.
· Mentor and coach field project personnel regarding Safety and Health programs and related issues.
· Perform Safety and Health walk-throughs, assessments and inspections.
· Advise management, supervisors, and employees on safety policies and procedures.
· Work with management, supervisors, employees and contractors to maintain and implement new and ongoing safety programs and comply with recommendations provided by outside consultants and regulatory agencies.
· Assist in the development and communication of associated safety bulletins/lessons learned, to all personnel
· Other duties as assigned by the Safety Director.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
· Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health or minimum of 2- 5 years of construction experience in a safety related role.
· Required: High School Diploma or GED
· Must meet company defined, pre-employment alcohol/drug screen; and have a valid driver license and a good driving record.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Understanding of OSHA 1926 standards.
· Ability to multi-task, manage time and prioritize projects to meet required deadlines.
· Effective computer skills including Microsoft Office applications.
· Strong communication and training skills.
· Ability to identify areas of improvement and take initiative to address them.
· Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team environment as well as individually.
· Ability to work in a field environment 80% of the time, to include physical activities such as lifting, bending, climbing and confined space entry.
· Must be willing to travel 20% to different project sites in Minnesota, North & South Dakota.
· Ability to work in hot and cold environments, uneven surfaces, muddy and slippery walking conditions.
· Typical workday starts at 6:45am and ends around 3:30pm. Additional hours are likely needed during the summer construction season.
