We have a number of exciting opportunities across England for Functional Skills & Learning Support Tutors to join our winning team. Using your passion for learning and development you will deliver innovative teaching and learning to our learners to progress them through their qualification.

You will guide and coach your learners whilst encouraging them to complete their planned learning and development tasks throughout their learning journey to successfully achieve their qualifications.

Further to the above, you will work with the Learning Support Manager to support the national delivery of Functional Skills and Additional Learning Support.

What will you be doing?

• Motivate and drive learners to achieve the Functional Skills elements of their learning programme in a timely manner, through great teaching and learning via both group and 1:1 delivery which will predominately be remotely

• Provide Additional Learning Support to learners that have learning difficulties or disabilities, including assessments of learning needs

• Support the operational teams across the business to ensure learners complete their initial and diagnostic assessments and implement effective learning support plans

• Support, develop, implement and evaluate training materials to develop the learner and utilise every opportunity to support them to achieve their qualification in a timely manner

• Support your assigned learners to achieve Functional Skill pass rates above national average and minimise resits

• Contribute to the tutorial guidance and support process for learners and colleagues

• Maintain and enhance the quality of our learners’ learning experience on their chosen programme of learning

• Build and maintain good working relationships with employers to ensure the learner receives an outstanding experience during their programme

• Undertake initial assessment and reviews with learners ensuring feedback is acted on appropriately

• Use quality improvement approved teaching and learning resources for the delivery of Functional Skills

• Identify and support the business with changes to awarding organisations’ requirements

• Maintain learner records, in line with business processes and procedures

• Book, invigilate and deliver assessments, delivering developmental feedback based upon the outcomes of the assessment

• Undertake continuing professional development (CPD) and training, meeting if not exceeding the requirements of our awarding organisations

• Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people you are responsible for or come into contact with

• Provide Information, Advice and Guidance to all clients that enables them to make informed decisions to meet their goals and objectives

• Be aware of GDPR legislation and comply with all data protection requirements

What we need from you:

• Minimum of 3 years’ Functional Skills Tutor experience

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience supporting learners with Additional Learning Needs

• Strong experience of teaching Functional Skills (in your chosen subject area) in a college or training environment

• Track record of building relationships, coaching and developing others to achieve success

• Friendly, approachable, energetic and positive with the skills to energise others

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain confidentiality and the highest level of integrity

• A high level of personal drive and the ability to meet challenges in a positive way

• Ability to plan, organise and prioritise own workload

• The ability to work both in a team and independently

• Knowledge of awarding body requirements for Functional Skills assessment, both online and paper-based exams

• Knowledge of the role Functional Skills plays in the apprenticeship standards

• Excellent IT skills, including the use of MS Office

• Minimum of Level 2 qualification in Maths & English

• Minimum of Level 2 SEND qualification

• Teaching qualification – AiET, CiET, DiET, Cert Ed or PGCE or achievement of this within two years of appointment

• Clean driving licence and access to a car insured for business use with the flexibility to travel to meet the needs of the business and our learners
