Palmer College of Chiropractic Hiring for Life Sciences Faculty at Davenport, IA Full Time

The term Faculty is limited to regular personnel at Palmer whose regular assignment includes instruction, research and/or public service as a principal activity and who hold academic rank as Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant professor or Instructor. Faculty play an important role in curriculum and policy development; faculty are planners who must constantly look to the long-term future of education and discovery. The faculty is expected to work closely with students, other faculty and administration of the College in promoting interests of the Palmer College of Chiropractic and its strategic plan.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

• Responsible to the assigned administrator and has a support responsibility to all other departments and college personnel as necessary.
• Responsible for the direct supervision of department personnel and others as assigned by the appropriate administrator.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• The role of the instructor is to teach coursework (lecture and/or lab) within the Doctor of Chiropractic program. Duties include preparation and presentation of individual lectures; course syllabus management; development, administration, and grading of both formative and summative assessments. Available courses include, but are not limited to, basic science areas such as Microbiology, Immunology and Biochemistry. Additional experience in Anatomy and Physiology is preferred.
• Faculty duties fall under several areas: teaching, scholarly work, service/citizenship and advising/mentorship. Some faculty may also have patient care responsibilities as part of their assignment. Specifically, the following activities are expected of all faculty:
• Preparation and presentation of individual lectures.
• Course syllabus management, content review.
• Development and administration of formative and summative assessments.
• Contribute to the development, administration and grading of course evaluations.
• Maintain appropriate office hours as required.
• Coordinate all learning activities.
• Proctoring exams and other responsibilities related to teaching and advising.
• Serve on appointed committees, task forces and other teams.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Candidates must have a first professional degree in a healthcare discipline or a graduate degree in an appropriate discipline or subfield of Life Sciences (Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry) from an institution accredited by a nationally recognized agency, or its foreign equivalent. Applicants holding a graduate degree outside of an area of instruction must have a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the Life Sciences discipline or subfield that will be taught.
• Academic preparation and experience in higher education teaching, evidence of teaching excellence and familiarity with technology and LMS are preferred.
• Computer literacy with email and Microsoft Office products is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Performs sedentary to light work in a ventilated, lighted, and temperature controlled office setting.
• Frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, sit, lift light objects (up to 10 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the workday.
