The team sit within the Growth and Economy directorate and supports the delivery of a half a billion-pound plus capital infrastructure programme over the coming years.

About the role

Join us in this specialist lead role and you’ll take full responsibility for the daily management and operation of an allocated area of work. Overseeing a capital budget of around £100 million, over five years, and leading a team of up to 10 professionals, you’ll guide, advise and support colleagues, and ensure a high-quality service that delivers for customers – on budget, on time and on brief.

You’ll play a key role in leading and driving projects and programmes discipline, including business efficiency and cultural change. Crucially, you’ll also plan for, and deliver, major infrastructure and growth delivery including all capital infrastructure work.

In what is a very diverse environment, we’ll look to you to operate across various streams including Housing Infrastructure Fund, Housing and Growth Deal, City Deal, LGF and internal funding sources.

Coaching, motivating and inspiring your team, you’ll help develop them professionally and improve their performance. You’ll ensure customer needs are met at all times, while embedding sound technical and project management techniques and disciplines into your area of the organisation.

This is a highly networked role, so you’ll be expected to build, promote and maintain effective communication with all relevant stakeholders – including council members, parish councils, the public, district councils and various supply chain partners.

About you

We’re looking for very impressive, senior-level experience, leading high-profile transport and highways projects. A track record (on the national or regional stage) of working with Government or partner agencies, is vital. As is a background leading a broad range of high-risk technical disciplines and an in-depth understanding of all the contractual, statutory and legislative requirements of work of this nature.

Ideally, you’ll have a degree in programme management, civil engineering or construction, and membership of a relevant professional body. On a personal level, you’ll be team-spirited, articulate, well organised and decisive.
