ABOUT OQC
At Oxford Quantum Circuits (OQC) we are building quantum computers to enable life-changing discoveries: from new drug modelisation to longer-lasting battery technology and portfolio optimisation. We are developing a cloud based quantum computer service – Quantum Computing as a Service (QCaaS) – to help our customers improve their operations and trailblaze new commercial and scientific approaches.
Our team is composed of 40 people with various backgrounds in quantum physics, nanotechnologies, hardware, software and business or creative industries. We are all bound by the desire to put OQC at the forefront of the quantum revolution and help solve some of the world’s most challenging problems.
ROLE OVERVIEW
As OQC’s HR Specialist, you will play an influential role in developing and supporting our entire employee life cycle. In this role, you will drive improvement in our people procedures, support our internal recruitment team with retention processes, assist with talent acquisition and steer our onboarding. In addition to this, you will also support our performance and progression activities. You will draw on your professional experience to help us expand our world-class team and build OQC’s reputation as an employer of choice for our current and future employees. This role is an integral part of a busy, growing business, and we are looking for someone enthusiastic and keen to really work with the team and across the company to improve and drive change.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure the team at OQC is well-equipped and comfortable with HR and values-related matters
Manage the employee life cycle activities for all employees including assisting with talent acquisition, performance management, contracts, offers, onboarding and offboarding
Maintain and improve HR management software – keeping employee records up to date in a timely manner
Manage benefits administration and rewards/wellbeing portals
Review, amend, create and communicate HR related policies, principles, handbooks and process manuals
Assist and support the recruitment team with interviewing and retention and visa process
Be responsible for and drive improvement in diversity, inclusion and engagement
Sustain OQC’s learning and development, including suggesting and arranging any required team training, advising on performance development plans and processes and attending review meetings.
Be a point of contact for any personable work related issues (e.g. grievances and employee disputes)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
You must have the right to work in the UK (unfortunately, we will not be able to sponsor visas)
At least 5 years of experience in similar a role dealing with HR-related matters
Good knowledge of UK labour laws, regulations and working practices
Previous experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Experience writing and implementing HR policies
Ability to maintain a high level of discretion and confidentiality
Project management skills with experience in managing / coordinating change programmes.
Previous experience using HR databases
Experience using Slack, G-Suite, Confluence and Zoom
Self starter with the ability to prioritise
Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
HR Professional Qualification
Knowledge and experience of the UK Visa process (UK points based system and visa request procedure).
Previous experience improving company diversity
Experience in a startup environment
Experience/knowledge of the Technology industry and ability to quickly grasp the technical skills required at OQC
LOCATION & TRAVEL
OQC’s office is located in Shinfield, Reading. There may be a requirement for occasional travel throughout the UK and elsewhere abroad for careers fairs.
