Assistant Director of College Counseling

Oxbridge Academy announces its search for a new, full-time, college counseling team member who brings the highest standards of professionalism to the critical role of guiding Oxbridge students on their journey from high school to college.

At Oxbridge Academy, college counseling is part of the Academic Advising, Student Services, and College Counseling Office (ASC). The goal of the ASC is to ensure that all Oxbridge Academy students and their parents have access to pertinent, practical, and well-timed information that will allow Oxbridge Academy students to succeed for four years in high school and move on to post-Oxbridge Academy destinations that match with our students’ talents, interests, and goals.

Oxbridge Academy’s ASC Office supports students on every step of their four-year journey through grades 9-12 and gives students the tools they need to plan and prepare for their academic future from the first day of ninth grade up until the moment they accept offers of admission at colleges and universities of their choice.

Essential Functions:

· Work collaboratively with the team to guide, support, and challenge students to reach their potential.

· Provide intensive and personalized one-on-one counseling for approximately 40 seniors (and their families) for the duration of their college search and application process

• Write compelling recommendation letters for approximately 40 seniors by October of their final year in high school

• Administer and track all aspects of the college search and application process for caseload, including admission decisions and statistics, using Naviance

• Respond quickly and effectively to the needs of a diverse and demanding student and parent population

• Provide personalized academic advising and college counseling to a caseload of approximately 140-150 students (caseload within Grades 9-12) including approximately 40 seniors and their parents about colleges, universities, the college admissions process, trends, procedures, and testing using varied formats, including, but not limited to

o Individual meetings

o Small group presentations

o Large group presentations

o Subject/grade level specific workshops

o Effective electronic and print communication

• Develop a personalized testing calendar for all students: SAT, ACT, Subject Tests, TOEFL, etc.

• Administer the PSAT 10, PACT, and PSAT/NMSQT each year, interpret results, and use results for academic planning in coordination with fellow upper school team members

• Use web-based resources, local and national agencies, etc. to maintain professional knowledge of current issues and trends in college admission in the USA and Canada

• Establish and maintain relationships with university admissions representatives and facilitate meetings between college representatives and our students.

• Facilitate college and career information sessions on campus

• Develop and present parent awareness programs that related to varied admissions systems in different countries.

• Maintain membership in professional organizations (ACCIS, NACAC, International ACAC, SACAC) and develop positive partnerships with college admission counselors.

• Guide student-athletes on caseload through the college athletic recruitment process.

Qualifications:

· The candidate we seek will ideally bring at least five years of successful college counseling experience in an independent school. Additional experience as a college admission officer at a selective college or university would also be helpful , as would extensive, in-person experience with a wide range of different types of colleges (that is, has visited numerous colleges through fly-ins or college visits).

· Our new team member must demonstrate an enthusiastic approach to teamwork and collaboration, superior interpersonal and communication skills, ​ expert public speaking skills, and a commitment and desire to provide the best experience possible for students and families, and a desire to learn and grow within a dynamic and proactive office, which serves the best interests of our outstanding group of high school students and their families

· Exhibit strong organizational ability and the capacity to meet multiple, frequent, and competing deadlines.

· Excellent technology skills including the ability to use Excel and college-specific submission systems to process and send documents, access and analyze web and data-based information, and control and manage student data are also essential as well as manage student appointments.

· Experience guiding student-athletes through the college admission process.

· A sense of humor to help manage what can be a stressful job!

Additional Desired Qualifications

· Fluency in navigating Maia Learning user experiences for students, parents, and teachers.

· NCAA athlete counseling experience preferred.

· A graduate degree in counseling or a related career.

· Ability to coach athletics or other activities preferred.
