POSITION SUMMARY

The Staff Accountant is accountable for providing accounting and financial reporting support to the Accounting Manager and Controller. Major responsibilities include accounting, analysis, and report preparation for current construction projects that will assist management in directing and controlling Orion operations. In addition, this position is responsible for gathering documentation for outside audit firm on a quarterly basis.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

• Reports directly to and complies with specific requests of the Accounting Manager and Controller.
• Works closely with the incumbent in this position to establish and achieve annual corporate goals for the Accounting Department.
• Prepares revenue and cash forecasting information by construction project.
• Performs daily cash forecasting which includes reconciling bank statements to the general ledger.
• Calculates business backlog accounting for both current on-going and prospective projects.
• Prepares and distributes required financial reports and accounting data to management of Orion and subsidiary companies.
• Assists in the formulation of cost accounting systems and procedures to accurately reflect the operations and status of the Company and assist management in directing and controlling operations.
• Provides special cost studies, reviewing past or projected results as they pertain to aspects of current projects and operations.
• Supports preparation of the month-end and year-end closing processes ensuring that the process is completed accurately and on a timely basis.
• Prepares monthly and year end journal entries and financial reports based on information finalized in month-end and year-end closing.
• Prepares weekly inventory reports for inventory management to track location and status of major assets such as boats, barges, dredges, cranes, etc.
• Performs general ledger analysis of accounts on regular frequency.
• Advises the Controller on accounting issues that may arise and recommends viable and timely solutions.
• Responds to requests to work on and complete special projects as may be required by the organization.
• Conducts periodic audits of operational accounting activities that include reviews check signer responsibilities, review of cash controls, and audits physical inventories.
• Conforms with and abides by all applicable governmental regulations and corporate policies and procedures to accomplish the above tasks.
• Advises Accounting leadership of any accounting issues that may arise and recommends viable and timely solutions.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

A B. S. Degree in Accounting is required with a minimum of 4 years of experience in all Accounting functions with emphasis in Project Accounting, Forecasting, Cost Accounting, and computerized financial systems used in a construction or manufacturing environment. A MBA and/or CPA are not required but are desirable. Incumbents must also be proficient in Microsoft Access, Excel and MS Dynamics experience or other similar database software. In addition, incumbents must be flexible to travel frequently to perform accounting duties at satellite locations.

Discretion and trustworthiness, and the ability to keep all Company information and materials strictly confidential (both internally and externally) are essential elements of this position.

Must be well organized, diligent, and be a self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision and to independently identify work to be done. Must be flexible, and have the ability to adjust to sudden changes in work priorities. The incumbent must also have the ability to prioritize work generally and in order to accommodate those changes. Attention to detail and extreme care in performing tasks accurately and carefully are also essential.

The incumbent must have the ability to quickly learn the accounting systems used by the organization; possess exceptional leadership qualities; possess the ability to evaluate and assess current Accounting system needs; develop recommendations to accommodate future corporate growth; be an effective communicator; and have the ability to interface well with employees at all levels of the organization.

The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.
