THE ROLE

ETRM-IT is responsible for on-going development and support of all IT systems which provide critical custom built infrastructure for Origin’s Energy Risk Management and Wholesale and Trading businesses. Origin’s asset portfolio and trading activities require highly customised software to allow prompt, correct and robust interaction with the energy markets for which Origin participates.

The role of a Software Engineer is to provide development and support services for ETRM-IT systems. The role is expected to;

• Apply a proactive approach to troubleshooting with a key objective of restoring disrupted services back to normal operations as quickly as possible to minimise the impact on the business and reduce the risk of financial loss to Origin
• Monitor and manage production systems in both on premise and cloud based environments with a focus on automating and minimising effort to manage production services while increasing reliability and total service quality for those systems
• Develop advanced technical software solutions to implement enhancements and resolve problems within on premise and cloud based solutions
• Understand, develop and adhere to all ETRM IT processes, policies and procedures.
• Proactively seek to understand ETRM IT systems as well as the ERM and W&T business.
• Communicate and work effectively with colleagues and customers, understanding key stakeholders by being responsive to their needs and impacts to their business.
• Be able to project manage solutions, communicating timelines, issues and resolution to our Stakeholders.
• Apply continuous improvement methodology to all work processes, procedures and documentation.
• Participation in ETRM ITs on-call (Standby) support roster.

IS THIS YOU?

This will require excellent technical and software development skills, strong trouble shooting and analysis skills, an ability to understand and follow and develop processes and procedures as well as understand the business and priorities and requirements. The role will require liaising with both technical and non technical staff so excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.

You will have or be able to demonstrate:

• At least 3 years experience in a software development with experience in dev-ops and / or agile development
• At least 3 years experience in Microsoft .NET framework application development
• At least 2 years experience in AWS cloud platforms, ideally in serverless technology like Lambda
• Knowledge and skill in best practice software development methodologies and design patterns
• Strong skills in identifying and designing solutions using software development patterns and best practices
• Excellent problem solving skills
• Enthusiastic attitude to embracing change
• Commitment to participating in the after-hours support roster
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with an ability to articulate technical information to non-technical people

The Software Engineer will also be involved in rostered ETRM-IT after hours support.
