Field Technician

Job Summary

To perform routine, preventative, corrective and emergency maintenance, design and build management of the fibre backbone network, as well as installation and commissioning activities of telecommunication equipment deployed in the Optus exchange and field environment, including on call & out of hours work when required.

Key Responsibilities:

• To perform routine, preventative, corrective and emergency maintenance of Transmission and Customer Premises equipment in the Optus network.
• Adherence to local area procedures, such as OH&S, and security.
• ing and resolving issues that may compromise the safety and/or the integrity of the external transmission network or workplace in a timely and accurate manner.
• Perform rearrangements on existing network equipment.
• Manage customer orders to ensure smooth delivery of service within KPI’s.
• Undertake acceptance testing activities for new equipment.
• To participate in the on-call roster and overtime as required by management to meet business and customer expectations.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Diploma in Telecommunications engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in hands-on troubleshooting of telecommunications network equipment (PDH, SDH, CE, xWDM) in the field and in Exchanges.
• Competency in the use of different network test equipment (ethernet RFC, fibre OTDR, BERT, optical power meter etc).
• High level of oral and written communication ability.

• Commitment to delivering quality.
• Computer literacy skills – TCP/IP, FTP, HTTP, VLAN, Microsoft Office apps suite.
• WA Motor Vehicle Driver’s License.
