As our Part time Social Studies and Design thinking teacher, you will be part of a collaborative teaching team that will fuse social studies and ELA into opportunities to master essential academic content and skills through design challenges, genius hour and projects that produce solutions to rigorous questions. This instructional practice focuses attention on deeper thinking and each student’s potential impact in the world. You will make real world connections with the local community and beyond to infuse impactful design challenges connected to the world of work and even build entrepreneurship skill building into the learning. By engaging in students’ passion, you will accelerate learning and through research-based, personalized instruction you will lead students to progress through skills at the rate of their mastery

Middle School Social Studies teacher –Responsibilities

• Co-teach with literacy teacher to create a real world grounded Humanities experience that integrates design challenges and PBL into social studies and ELA standards and connections to topics of student interest/passion.
• Empower students to create relevant and real world work and ministry to be exhibited and engage the school and external community.
• Lead discipleship and leadership advisory small group where students learn the Bible, wrestle with practical questions of following Christ, and develop leadership and ministry skills.
• Create a student-centered classroom environment where student passion and interest is valued and empowered, where relationships serve as the foundation of the community and where discussions of following Christ are central to learning experiences.
• Design individual and small group academic instruction based on each student’s abilities and needs, to demonstrate mastery of core knowledge and skills.
• Apply research-based teaching strategies to the design of instruction and continually pursue refining teaching skill.
• Curate and coach student projects and monitor progress through evidence of mastery.
• Collaborate and team with other instructional designers to develop driving questions, problems and design challenges based in academic standards.
• Engage and partner with the church, city and community to deepen student learning with real world work experiences and authentic audiences.
• Develop design challenges, genius hour, maker space experiences with the instructional team.
• Commit to continual learning and innovation including making regular contributions to a network of team educators to build a community of child-centered educators and mentor other educators through sharing expertise.
• Partner in the daily operations and safety of the school.
• Engage in the school and One Church community beyond the classroom.
• Seek to continually grow as an innovator and accomplished instructor by engaging in consistent goal setting, research and growth towards the practice and craft of teaching and learning.

Middle School Social Studies teacher – Basic Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in education and Ohio teaching credential (or ability to obtain) or undergraduate/graduate degree in content expertise or industry specific area aligned to the teaching assignment and eligibility for alternative licensure.
• Strong Christian faith and readiness to integrate faith into teaching and leading students.
• Prior experience with creating child-centered learning activities, including classroom teaching experience with students.
• Prior experience, or education equivalency, with demonstrated academic results and/or incorporating innovative instructional design and faith-based learning into student experiences.
• Passion for working with and engaging children in student driven learning experiences and real world contexts.
• Proven experience in building relationships with students.
• Belief in fostering children’s passion, gifts, Christian faith, social and emotional capabilities.
• Growth mindset and commitment to be a collaborative, high performing team member.
• Commitment to continuous improvement and professional learning.
• Innovative and entrepreneurial mindset as well as customer service focus.

Preferred Qualifications

• Undergraduate or graduate degree in education.
• Proven success with innovative instructional strategies.
• Education, knowledge, and experience with design thinking, genius hour and PBL.
• Prior experience co-teaching and working on collaborative teams.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $17,000.00 – $20,000.00 per year
