Omar D Blair Charter School Hiring for ELD Teacher Full Time

Job Summary:

Omar D. Blair is currently seeking an English Language Development (ELD) Teacher in grades 4 – 8. The ELD Teacher is responsible for the instructional delivery of cultural linguistics and English Language Acquisition for Multilingual Language Learners. The ELD Teacher will also work in collaboration with the MLL Coordinator to monitor MLL scholar academic and SEL progress and ensure compliance with district and state requirements, specific to Cultural and Linguistic Diverse Education. All teachers receive a personal lunch, personal and team planning, data analysis, professional development, and coaching.

Required Qualifications:

• Valid Colorado Teaching License
• English Language Development certification or equivalent Cultural Linguistic credentials (preferred)
• Bachelor’s degree is required and Highly Qualified (HQ) in subject area
• Desire to teach in an urban public or charter school setting preferred
• Must be able to work flexible hours to meet the needs of students

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Enthusiastically collaborates with DPS and the ODB team to provide a welcoming experience for multilingual students and their families enrolling in the district
• Identifies potential ELs’ initial English language proficiency level for each language domain via the state approved WIDA Screener
• Collects information in a timely manner about students’ families, languages, cultures, and educational backgrounds.
• Administers the annual ACCESS for ELs state assessment of growth in English language proficiency, updating certifications in test administration annually
• Reviews data and other evidence to adapt daily ELL instruction
• Serve as a part of the CHISA team to review ELL student progress and growth
• Facilitate English Learners’ acquisition of academic English and academic achievement.
• Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction as to meet the needs of individual students capitalizing on the resources and experiences ELs bring to school to build and enrich their academic language
• Develops daily language learning targets by analyzing language demands and identifying the language needed for functional use involved in grade-level teaching and learning
• Provides opportunities for MLs of every proficiency level to engage in higher-order thinking
• Works collaboratively with classroom teachers of ELs to create language-rich classroom environments and effectively communicate progress in English Language Development (ELD) with students and parents.
• Monitors student achievement, as it connects to math, literacy and science.
• Integrate “PERMS” into daily instruction for MLs
• Daily integrate speaking, listening, reading and writing into every class
• Develop appropriate and healthy relationships with scholars, including advocating for them and celebrating their success
• Develop and maintain open and consistent communication with scholars and their families about their academic progress (language).
• Engage in rigorous professional development to build on both personal and school wide strengths and areas of growth to promote the school’s vision, mission, and values
• Attend school/community events during and after school
• Performs other duties as assigned by administration
