Role Overview:

An exciting opportunity has come available for an experienced SEND practitioner. The post holder will take lead responsibility for championing the education of Oldham’s Children Looked After, previously looked after and those with a Social Worker who have SEND. We are looking for an energetic, experienced SEND professional with an excellent understanding of the needs of care experienced children and those with a Social Worker.

You will be joining a friendly, dedicated team reporting to the Virtual School Team Manager. Based in the centre of Oldham the role offers opportunities to work from home at times.

Key Responsibilities:

• To take lead role in the Virtual School for coordinating the process and procedures for Oldham CLA who have an EHCP that reside out of borough in accordance with the duties outlined in the SEN Code of Practice.
• To work with the network of professionals, children / young people and parents and carers to support the development, implementation and review of EHC plans, developing strong relationships with specialist schools and provision that have Oldham CLA on roll both in an out of borough
• To provide advice and guidance regarding the ‘Graduated Response’ to identifying and meeting individual needs for Oldham CLA, previously looked after children and children with a Social Worker
• To develop and deliver relevant training programmes regarding SEND for a range of audiences, working where appropriate with relevant partners.
• To work closely with relevant partners to maintain a clear overview of the cohort and their educational outcomes. Recoding and tracking through local authority databases

Key Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you will need as a minimum:

• Relevant experience of working with children and families in an education context specifically children looked after and those with SEND
• Degree or NVQ level 4 or above (relevant to the post) with a clear understanding and experience of working within relevant statutory educational frameworks and the ability to support and work collaboratively with partners in relation to these
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a proven track record of interagency working to achieve positive educational outcomes
