About the Kitchener Centre Team
The Office of MP Mike Morrice is a dynamic, hard-working, collaborative and goal-oriented workplace where each staff member’s contributions are valued and respected. We strive for clarity of roles and expectations, and work to minimize hierarchy between staff and the MP. We are motivated to serve Kitchener Centre residents, represent their interests, and make progress on their priorities in Parliament.
Our friendly and close-knit staff team stays connected in-person, through MS Teams, team meetings, 1:1 check ins, legislative meetings, caucus calls, and shared documents. Although flexibility is a must, we prioritize work-life balance and the right to disconnect on evenings and weekends. We offer additional vacation time over the holidays in December and five personal days throughout the year, in addition to regular vacation. Staff are supported to pursue professional development and learning opportunities, including French language training on work time. As part of the House of Commons, staff receive comprehensive health and dental benefits and a generous pension plan with matched employer contributions.
If you are motivated, organized and detail-oriented, and are looking for an amazing opportunity to make a difference with a fun and supportive team, this position is for you!
Legislative Manager Role
The Legislative Manager (LM) manages the MP office’s legislative work, including bills, house procedures, petitions, committees, research, scheduling, and correspondence. The LM works collaboratively with the MP, caucus legislative director, parliamentary assistant and interns, director of staff, communications manager, and constituency staff to make decisions and carry out projects to further the MP and team’s priorities. These include the climate crisis, mental health, housing, immigration, disability justice, anti-racism, wealth inequality, gender- based violence, electoral reform, and thoughtful engagement on government legislation.
As the Director of Staff is based in the riding and only in Ottawa part time, this role involves day-to-day management of co-op students, interns and volunteers, and managing the physical office space. The Legislative
Manager coordinates legislative projects and procedures, manages the legislative side of policy issue campaigns
(such as Motion 71 to change housing taxation rules, ending fossil fuel subsidies, and implementing the Canada
Disability Benefit), and advises the Green Party caucus on policy and procedures. The LM should be highly organized, a strong communicator, and excited to take leadership and ownership within the Hill office to direct and support legislative work.
