This trainee finance officer role will provide financial support to the Integrated Data Programme (IDP). The IDP aims to build a digital collaborative environment that enables cross-government teams and wider communities to deliver complex analytical outcomes by bringing together analysts, data, infrastructure, information governance and domain expertise. The main objective is to unlock the vast potential of linked data to enhance decision making for the public good, providing a quality evidence base on which to improve the lives of citizens.

Reporting to the Deputy Finance Business Partner within the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) business unit, you’ll be responsible for your own business area allocation and will deliver high quality financial MI, analysis and monthly accounting processes. Through doing this you will support, advise and coach your customers, allowing and enabling them to make informed business decisions. You’ll collate, cleanse and analyse data, applying context to inform and advise your customers in the business. You will be a part of an engaged and motivated team with a focus on active problem solving, peer review and continuous professional development.

Responsibilities

Processing Financial Transactions

• Ensuring accurate budgets and forecasts are uploaded to Oracle Fusion in line with deadlines
• Take responsibility for material journal adjustments and accruals

Financial Analysis

• Use available information to analyse and understand trends and changes in month
• Provide insightful commentary to support monthly financial reporting and decision making

Budget holder support

• Building and maintaining effective working relationships with business support staff
• Scrutinising forecasting decisions and assumptions, and the ability to challenge to the business when appropriate

Team working

• Support the team in the production and distribution of financial reports to required timescales, providing accurate, relevant and timely management information
• Working flexibly across the team and shifting direction quickly to meet changing priorities and demands

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

• Attention to detail and the ability to produce work to a high level of quality (as evidenced through academic results)
• Demonstrate strong analysis skills and the ability to clearly communicate your findings verbally and in writing
• Able to manage time, prioritise tasks and work under tight deadlines
• Strong Excel skills
• Strong Numerical Skills
